One Year Later, Clint King Returns to Madison Int’l Speedway Hoping to Duplicate ARCA Debut Performance
Friday August 24, 2012
Concord, NC (August 24, 2012) — Denton, North Carolina teenager, Clint “The Kid” King will once again find himself at Madison International Speedway in southern Wisconsin, the site of his 2011- ground breaking professional stock-car driving debut with Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.Exactly one-year to the date (8/26/11) King slammed onto the ARCA scene by making history on his 16th birthday at the Madison short track becoming the youngest driver ever to start an ARCA series sanctioned race. At the time King was the first and youngest driver to compete in ARCA’s storied 50-year history.
(Ventruini Driver, Erik Jones at 15-years old took over this notable distinction earlier this year driving at Mobile International Speedway)
Amazingly, King’s historic start at Madison was just the beginning of the headlines highlighting the mild-mannered teen’s racing debut. King not only showed up on the entry list but celebrated his big day in dramatic fashion, smashing and setting a new track-record enroute to his first ARCA series pole award with a fast lap of 18.205 seconds around the .5 mile oval.
Proving the accomplishment was no fluke, King led laps that day and drove his Venturini machine to a third-place finish capping off an incredible series debut.
Fast forward 1-year and eight ARCA starts later, King is following a structured career path and making the most of his limited opportunities impressing his peers and gaining the respect of veteran drivers.
So far during his early career, King has gone about his business earning (2) pole awards (Madison & Salem 11’), (3) top-5’s and (6) top-10 finishes in just eight ARCA series starts.
Although King’s part-time driving success doesn’t yield the same accolades other full-time drivers receive, King has proven himself as one of the series’ brightest young stars.
Come Sunday, King will celebrate yet another birthday (17) at Madison Int’l Speedway and continue his personal pursuit of claiming his first series victory behind the wheel of his No.15 Speedrack Products Group Chevrolet.
This will be King’s sixth start for Venturini in 2012. In his previous five races King has posted (2) top-5’s and (4) top-10 finishes. Earlier this month King drove his Speedrack Products Group backed car to a sixth-place finish at Berlin Raceway.
Practice for the Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 will take place from 1-1:45 p.m. and 2:15-3 p.m. Saturday, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell following at 4:30 p.m.
ARCA Racing Series drivers will appear on the frontstretch for an autograph session open to all fans at noon Sunday, and the 200-lap, 100-mile race will begin at 2 p.m. All times are Central. ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage throughout the weekend, and ARCA Racing Network hosts Charlie Krall and Tim Clagg will deliver a live audio call for the race on the site.
Madison International Speedway is located at 1122 Sunrise Dr. in Oregon, just south of Madison. To learn more about Clint King be sure to check out www.ClintKing.com, follow him on twitter @DriverClintKing and “Like” him on Facebook.
