CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 12, 2012) – Matt Lofton and the No. 16 Strutmasters.com, Coulter Motorsports Chevrolet team head to historic Salem, I.N., this weekend for the ever-festive ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic by Federated Car Care 200.
Salem is a town often revered for its strong historical presence, seeing events such as Morgan’s Raid, an 1863 Confederate takeover of the beautiful downtown area and the building of one of nearly 2,00 prestigious Carnegie Libraries in the United States. Adding to the history was the opening of then infamous Salem Speedway in 1947. Shortly after the first checkered flag waved, the high-banked, action packed .555-mile speedway began hosting the ARCA Racing Series in 1955. Adding yet another notch to the sleepy little town’s repertoire, ESPN hosted their first televised motorsports broadcast, a sprint car race, from Salem Speedway in 1979 the Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial.
While Saturday evening’s race marks 2012 Rookie of the Year contender Lofton’s second visit to the rough and tough track, he is prepared for the high speed, tight-knit racing. Growing up racing throughout the Southeast, Lofton has battled some of the toughest short-track veterans and tracks to date, earning respect all along the way. While full of hard love and tough at times, Lofton always prevailed, staying consistent and earning top finishes at most every track he visited.
Coulter Motorsports has prepared chassis No. 13, referred to as “JJ” for this weekend’s spectacle. A top short-track car in Coulter Motorsports’ stable, Lofton last raced “JJ” at Madison International Speedway.
Racing action from Salem Speedway kicks off Saturday with practice from 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Menards Pole Qualifying follows suit at 4 p.m. and the green flag is set to wave over the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic by Federated Car Care 200 at 7:15 p.m. (All times Eastern.)
