· Clauson holds a 17-point lead (128-111) over Dario Franchitti in the Raybestos® Rookie standings entering tonight’s race at Daytona.
· The Winn-Dixie 250 will be Clauson’s 13th Nationwide Series start this season.
· The best previous qualifying effort for Clauson was a pair of sixth-place starts this season, most recently at Kentucky (race No. 16). The other was in the season-opening event here at Daytona.
· The Raybestos Rookie class has now won back-to-back poles. Landon Cassill captured the top starting spot one week ago at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
BRYAN CLAUSON, No. 40 FASTENAL DODGE: YOU WERE THIRD CAR OF 45 TO QUALIFY. HOW WAS THE WAIT? “It was a long one. This place takes a little bit to qualify here and we were pretty early out so we had to watch a lot of fast guys go there and we were kind of biting our nails there. The 8 car went out pretty late and he was really fast in practice and we really weren’t sure what he had. On top of that the rain was coming here and there, kind of spitting a little bit, so we weren’t really sure if we were going to get beat by another car or Mother Nature or what was going to happen. I’m just really proud of all the guys on the Fastenal Dodge. They brought a great race car here. As good as we were there in qualifying I feel like we’re just as good in the race and that’s why we were kind of surprised by the lap that we threw down. Just really proud of all the guys here at the racetrack and back at the shop that prepared this thing.” YOU WERE WAITING THERE WITH YOUR CREW CHIEF BRAD PARROTT, AN EMOTIONAL GUY. WHAT WAS THAT LIKE? “I think we were both just as emotional. Waiting out your first pole at a place like this, like I said, having to wait two and a half hours or whatever we just waited is pretty rough on a guy. I feel like I’m about 30 years old now; I’ve got a couple of grey hairs and all that. But like I said, it was a long wait but me and Brad we were going over past notes and what we thought everybody was going to run. We were really into it there. I’m just proud of everybody and really looking forward to tonight and hopefully we can put the No. 40 back on top of the pylon again.” WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE RACE? “We worked on our car in traffic all day yesterday. Starting out front, hopefully, it should turn fine with clean air. Hopefully we can keep it out front there. The 5 and the 88 will probably get hooked up there. I was actually pretty happy with the 16 kind of pushing them apart there on the start because those two would have been running like jackrabbits there on the first lap if you got those two hooked up. Hopefully we can make some friends, get some help, and be there at the end when all heck break loose.”
