Team Race Preview
NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 21 of 35 – Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway
GATEWAY STATS: Cale Gale has one previous Nationwide Series start at Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway. Driving a Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet, Gale started the 2007 race from the 35th position and following an early race incident, finished 29th.
Gale won his first Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race in 2006 at Gateway, in his second career start. Gale’s victory led directly to his current ride with KHI.
20 AND COUNTING: This week will mark Gale’s 20th start in the Nationwide Series. In 19 career Nationwide Series starts, Gale’s best finish came earlier this year when he earned his first career top-10 finish with an eighth-place finish at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway. To add to his resume, Gale has four Rookie of the Race honors to his credit.
BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER CALE GALE:
Having won an ARCA race at Gateway International Raceway, which helped land your job at KHI, what does this track mean to you? “It’s the track that definitely helped me get to where I am today in my racing career and it’s a track I like. Gateway’s a track that drives like a short track. My first time here in an ARCA car, I knew the track fit my driving style. This season I will be back with the confidence to run well in equipment I know is capable of winning.”
Having successful teammates with Kevin Harvick, Ron Hornaday and Jack Sprague, how much do you look to them for advice before heading to the track? “It’s great to have these guys to look to. I go to them and ask how I should drive at certain tracks and they help me out by giving me pointers about getting in the corners and how to better handle the car. To be able to have these guys on had to talk to is great. Each have their own experiences to pull from and that helps me every time I go to the track.”
ADDING TO THE JOB: In addition to sharing the No. 33 Nationwide Series ride with KHI team co-owner Harvick and three-time Truck Series champion Hornaday, Gale also makes his presence known throughout the shop as he does whatever it takes to make it in NASCAR’s elite series. Gale builds shocks for both KHI truck series entries driven by 2007 Truck Series champion Hornaday and three-time Truck Series champion Sprague. He has also taken to the spotter’s stand on several occasions. Gale test for the teams and is the full-time driver for testing on the KHI chassis dyno.
A MILLION THANKS: RoadLoans.com and KHI have partnered with the A Million Thanks Foundation, a letter writing campaign, for the 2008 NASCAR season to collect letters of appreciation for the men and women of the armed forces. Shauna Fleming, the 18-year-old college student who founded the foundation in March 2004, set an initial goal of collecting and distributing one million letters of ‘thank you’ to the troops serving in the U.S. Armed Forces around the world. In October 2004, Fleming reached her goal and presented President George Bush with the one-millionth letter. RoadLoans.com will station drop boxes at all show car appearances throughout race markets this season for fans to write letters and drop into the box. The letter writing campaign kicked off February 23 and runs through November 15, 2008. Please visit www.RoadLoansracing.com for a complete listing of show car events.
CHASSIS HISTORY: This week Gale will be behind the wheel of Chassis No. 041. This chassis has been on track three previous times this season with Kevin Harvick behind the wheel and has scored three top-five finishes. Harvick finished fourth at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and at Phoenix International Raceway and after leading 98 laps at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, he finished second.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Kevin Harvick was behind the wheel of the No. 33 KHI Chevrolet for the Dollar General 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. Harvick started the race from the fourth position and suffered damage to the front of the car following a lap-one incident. The team worked on the damage during every stop, as Harvick crossed the finish line in 18th place.

Does your post spark passionate reactions from other readers? Are you commenting on meaningful NASCAR-related events? Do your posts have substance? In other words, “Dale Jr. is the best driver ever” or “Danica Patrick is hot” will not cut it.
So go to the Frontstretch Forums, post early, post often, and post well! We’ll announce the winner following the final race of the season at Homestead.
