Tuesday October 21, 2008

Scott Wimmer
No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Event/Date: Kroger On Track for the Cure 250 – October 25, 2008
Venue: Memphis ( Tenn. ) Motorsports Park

NOTES:
· This Week’s Holiday Inn Chevrolet at Memphis Motorsports Park – Scott Wimmer will pilot Chassis No. 052 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series stable. Formerly a No. 21 machine, this chassis saw action in 2007 with Kevin Harvick behind the wheel at Darlington Raceway ( St. 17, Fn. 13). He also grabbed the Coors Light Pole and finished seventh with this race car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After receiving all the 2008 updates and being outfitted with the green and blue paint scheme showcasing the Holiday Inn Family of Brands — Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express — Wimmer steered this Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to a 12th-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a fourth-place finish at O’Reilly Raceway Park and, most recently, a second-place finish at Richmond International Raceway.

· A Look at the Charts – Based on Jeff Burton’s second-place finish two weeks ago at Charlotte, the No. 29 team maintained their fourth-place standing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series owners’ championship point standings. The team is now 228 markers behind leader and teammate Clint Bowyer, driver of RCR’s No. 2 BB&T machine, and just 32 points behind the No. 60 machine in third. In 31 starts, Burton and Wimmer have earned one victory, nine top-five and 19 top-10 finishes in 31 starts.

· Where it all Began – Wimmer made his Nationwide Series debut in October 2000 at Memphis Motorsports Park, where he started 32nd and finished 18th.

· Memphis Minutes – Wimmer has earned one win, one top-five and four top-10 finishes, and has led 93 laps in five NNS starts at Memphis

· RCR at Memphis – Richard Childress leads the NNS car owner victories list with three – Kevin Harvick (2000 and 2006) and Bowyer (2005). In 18 starts at the 0.75-mile oval, Childress boasts nine top-five and 11 top-10 finishes with six different drivers including Harvick, Johnny Sauter, Jay Sauter, Ron Hornaday, Jr., Bowyer and Wimmer.

· Design a Dream – The Holiday Inn Racing team, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis Motorsports Park and seven other Nationwide Series teams have teamed up to help recognize children fighting for their lives at the hospital founded by Danny Thomas in 1962. The children cared for at the hospital have designed the paint schemes for the eight participating cars competing in the event. Jose, an avid NASCAR fan, designed the colorful Holiday Inn Chevrolet for the No. 29 team.

· Sign Here – Wimmer will sign autographs and meet season ticket holders on the speedway’s frontstretch Fri., Oct. 24 from 5:15 – 6:00 p.m. Wimmer will be joined by Landon Cassill, Kenny Wallace, Jason Leffler, James Buescher, D.J. Kennington, Scott Lagasse Jr., Chase Miller and John Wes Townley. If you are not a season ticket holder, contact the Memphis Motorsports Park ticket office at 1-866-40-SPEED for more information.

· Scott’s Season Stats – This weekend’s race will be the 20th of 23 that Wimmer is scheduled to drive the Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS this season. In 19 starts, he has posted one win, five top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

· Catch the Action – Live coverage of the Kroger On Track for the Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park will be televised live on ESPN Classic Sat., Oct. 25 beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 32nd stop on the 35-race schedule will be televised live the same day live on ESPN Classic beginning at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES:
Talk about your win at Memphis in 2002.
“That was probably my most memorable win. I had to hold off Ron Hornaday for about four or five restarts at the end and he actually got by me a couple of times. We had to battle hard for that win that day. I didn’t have a sponsor on my car for that race and had just a small group of guys working real hard on the car and we were able to win it.”

You must be excited to run a paint scheme designed by a St. Jude patient this weekend?
“My wife and I are huge supporters of St. Jude and it means a lot to have a design from one of the kids. Instead of gifts on special occasions we ask that our friends and family give to St. Jude. We are really involved in the hospital and appreciate all that they do for children. It means a lot to me to have a special paint scheme designed by one of the kids there. Most of us don’t realize what these kids go through and what they endure each and every day. It’s great to see the involvement between NASCAR and St. Jude. Hopefully, I can get a win for that one special kid.”

What does it take to get around Memphis ?
“It takes a lot of things to be good at Memphis . It’s a pretty unique race track and it takes a lot of strategy to get a win there. You’ve got to have a car that runs good on the long runs but also on the short runs because that race seems to have a bunch of late-race cautions. That was the case last year and you have to be prepared to have a short run to the checkered flag. I won at Memphis in 2002 and had to go through a lot of restarts at the end of the race and it seemed to be the same last year. My Holiday Inn Chevrolet was strong there last year and I hope it’s the same this year.”
