Kyle Busch NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion Interview – Texas Motor Speedway
Is indeed smack down the competition today here at Texas, Kyle Busch rolls to his fourth straight win in the Nationwide Series at Texas Motor Speedway as he takes the checkered flag in the O’Reilly Challenge.
Kyle Busch:
It’s pretty awesome, I love coming out to Texas. This is for some reason one of my best race tracks now. I seem to really like getting around here. This car was flawless again today. We’ve had cars that have been flawless like this for the past three or four races now, four I guess it is. It’s a testament to this team, they do such an awesome job repairing these cars.
The last two seasons here at Texas Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch has swept every single Nationwide Series shootout. He claims though after leading 179 of the 200 laps this past Saturday, it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
Busch:
It was a little treacherous there today on the inner side of Kevin Harvick early in the race but the car stuck well enough for me where I didn’t spin out and wreck. I remember Vegas came straight to my mind when we were battling for the lead with Harvick and wrecked but we’ve been running well all year long and we’ve been able to capitalize on good runs. This is one of the ones we capitalized on, this is eight on the year but unfortunately we missed out on 11 others. Those are second place finishes but when you get to Victory Lane it’s cool that you can get your team to Victory Lane and really celebrate with them because those are the guys who deserve to be here.
About the only driver who looked like he might have something to beat Busch was Kasey Kahne, he however suffered a mechanical failure and was relegated to 30th place. Subbing for his injured teammate Jeff Burton, Casey Mears was the runner-up in his first Nationwide Series race since the season ending event at Homestead-Miami in 2007.
Casey Mears:
I’ve been wanting to run one of these Nationwide cars for the last couple years and I just haven’t had a good opportunity to and an unfortunate event happened this week to get me in here but I just appreciate everybody putting me in and feeling like I could do a good job for them and it was fun, I had a great time, I just happened to see the Holiday Chevrolet run so well. It would have been nice to have a chance to win there but I think everything that went on there this weekend was a really good finish for us.
Finishing third was Jason Leffler, who gave credit to his whole team, led by crew chief Scott Zipadelli.
Jason Leffler:
You guys did a great job, I mean my car was fast all weekend and once Scott got it adjusted up for me the second stop we were home but, came in on the last pit stop and we gained a bunch of spots. Those guys have done a great job on pit road for us all year long. Have to thank everyone from Great Clips for coming out and supporting us. It was a great day for us to run third here is pretty awesome and it was a lot of fun.
Under the final caution Matt Kenseth took two tires and then rallied to come home forth.
Matt Kenseth:
We weren’t going to beat the 18, that car is so fast, Kyle does such a good job getting around the track. We weren’t going to beat those guys unless we pitted so we decided to gamble a couple tires hoping a few extra guys pitted with us but we were able to get our way back up to forth which was a pretty solid run for us for a CitiFinancial car.
Brad Keselowski came across the line fifth. Six to 10 it was Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers, David Ragan, Carl Edwards and Mike Bliss. Then 11 to 15 it was James Buescher, Jason Keller, Trevor Bayne, Scott Wimmer and Tony Raines. Kyle Busch’s lead over Carl Edwards with just two races left is 272 points and all likelihood Busch will now clinch the Nationwide Series title this coming week at Phoenix.
Busch:
It’s pretty cool, I wish I could have gotten it done as soon as possible, but as soon as possible is going to come next week. It feels awesome. It’s all in these guys and what they do. The hours they spend. A lot of guys on this team really deserve it, they’ve been working really hard. The 20 team earned the owner championship last year, now that the 18 cars got a championship everybody in the whole Gibb shop is championship worthy so that’s pretty cool to have.
Setting third in the standings only 20 points behind Edwards is Brad Keselowski. Meanwhile Jason Leffler has wrapped up forth place but the battle for fifth and the final spot at the head table for the Nationwide Series awards dinner is up for grabs with Justin Allgaier leading Mike Bliss by just 13 points.
