Scott Falls Victim of Circumstance at Montreal

Tuesday August 31, 2010

MONTREAL, CANADA (August 29, 2010) - Brian Scott finished 40th in the NAPA Auto Parts 200 on Sunday afternoon at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Scott’s day ended only eight laps into the event when Scott was unable to avoid a spinning car in front of him.

Qualifying 26th in his first attempt at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Scott charged through the field on the start. Picking up five positions on the very first lap, Scott sat 21st at the end of the second lap. A full-course caution flew on lap two. Scott reported a decent handling AccuDoc Solutions Camry and shared some confidence with the team.

On the restart, Scott picked off another two positions while heading into turn three. Just in front of him, a car began to spin with Scott hard on the brakes entering the corner. Through three and into four Scott made a move to the outside to avoid the spinning car. Unfortunately, there was nothing that he could do. The No. 11 AccuDoc Solutions Camry was blasted in the driver side door and spun backwards into the retaining wall.

Barely able to drive it back through the 14-turn Montreal road course, Scott managed to limp the No. 11 AccuDoc Solutions Toyota back to the garage area where the crew determined the damage was too great to repair. Scott would end his day in 40th position.

“That’s not what we wanted here in Montreal,” Scott said after the race. “We really worked hard to adapt to this track and I really felt like we had a good car. I knew that staying out of trouble was going to be key here today because this race is always crazy. There was nothing I could do out there. I was really happy with the AccuDoc Solutions Camry today and I really felt like we could have greatly improved on our starting spot. We’ll turn it around in Atlanta.”

This 40th place finish puts Scott 13th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship standings, 94 points out of 12th and 1446 points from the lead.

Next Stop:  The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Atlanta this weekend for the Great Clips 300. The Saturday evening race will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN2 starting at 6:30 p.m. EST.  The green flag is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
