· The Great Clips 300… This weekend marks Great Clips’ first endeavor as primary sponsor of a NASCAR event. As a result of their “Gimmie Gotta Getta” ticket promotion in the Atlanta area, 23,000 ticket vouchers to Saturday night’s race were awarded to Great Clips customers.
· A little about the Great Clips 300 “Grand Marshall” Jack Stapleton… In May 2004, during a family outing, your-year-old Jack fell off a pontoon boat into the water and his head was struck by the boat's propeller. His mother immediately jumped in after him, and although she was quickly able to locate him, she struggled to bring him to the surface. When rescuers arrived, Jack was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in critical condition. The next 48 hours were marked by words such as "cautiously optimistic" and "potentially survivable." After clinging to life in a drug-induced coma for a few weeks, Jack was strong enough to endure multiple surgeries. Through the many complex procedures, including the removal of the left side of Jack's skull, surgeons at Children's have been able to perform a complete and successful reconstruction. With a long rehabilitation still to go, Jack is now an energetic 6-year-old, performing new miracles every day.
Great Clips is proud to have Jack serve as their Grand Marshall this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
· Kahne back in the seat of the No. 38 Great Clips Camry at Atlanta… This weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS), Kahne will make his seventh start of the season for Braun Racing in the No. 38 entry. In six races for the team, Kahne has one top-five and two top-10 finishes with 55 laps led. Kahne drove the No. 38 Great Clips machine for three seasons for team owner, Doug Stringer, under the Akins Motorsports banner.
· Did you know? Great Clips is the longest-running sponsor in the Nationwide Series…Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc. came onto the scene in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Akins Motorsports No. 38 entry, then driven by Christian Elder. Kasey Kahne drove the car from 2003-2005, before Leffler took over the wheel in 2006. This season, Leffler and Kahne share driving duties of the No. 38 Great clips machine.
· Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones together, including Kahne capturing his first career Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor in the series.
· Kahne proves impressive at Atlanta… In eight NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at AMS, Kahne has three top-five and six top-10 finishes to his credit. He has led a cumulative 54 laps at the famed 1.54-mile quad-oval track and has an average start of 13.0 and an average finish of 8.1. His best performance came in 2006 when he finished second after starting from the 17th position.
· Next up for Kahne… Kahne’s next race behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips Camry will be in the season-finale event at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
· Who’s on the pit box? Stewart Cooper will call the shots for Kahne and serve as crew chief for the No. 38 Great Clips team in the eight races that he is behind the wheel.
Kasey Kahne on his long-tenured partnership with Great Clips
“It has really been great to drive the Great Clips car again this season. It’s awesome to be able to partner up with them again after all this time. I got my start with them as my sponsor back in 2003, and that’s something I have never forgotten. We are not running for a championship so my ultimate goal for the season has been to take this Great Clips team back to victory lane. To do it here at Atlanta in the Great Clips 300 would be really special. This is a weekend that everyone at Great Clips has been excited about all year, so I hope to put the icing on the cake with a win on Saturday night.”
Great Clips, Inc. President, Rhoda Olsen, on Great Clips’ title sponsorship endeavor
“On behalf of all of our franchisees from more than 2,800 salons in the United States and Canada, we are excited to sponsor the Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Being part of NASCAR is a powerful opportunity for us to showcase the Great Clips brand with millions of existing customers and race fans. We are proud of our long-standing affiliation with the Nationwide Series and believe this title race is a testimony to Great Clips’ leadership of the hair care category within NASCAR. With the support of the entire Braun Racing organization and Kasey Kahne at the wheel, we are looking forward to a great race in Atlanta.”
Equipment Information
The No. 38 Great Clips team will hit the track with chassis #BR044 in this weekend’s Great Clips 300. This is the same chassis Kahne piloted earlier this season at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway, finishing 26th (accident) and fourth, respectively.
