Lets see if this one brings some good memories.
Just post something from your childhood that makes you smile to think about it. Something you wish your kids could experience.
Like....................
Walking barefoot down the dirt road to get the mail and stopping at my Aunt Zippy's house on the way back for a cold drink and sitting on her porch swing.

my best friend Christine Emily Rickards and I camping out at the swimming hole - no worries about anyone bothering us - just the cows that would come and wake us up in the morning.

Taking off on our bikes after breakfast and riding all over town..staying out all day if we wanted to. We didn't know what a child molester was. Too bad all the innocence has been lost.

That wonderful queasy, excited feeling you got when your friend came back from asking that super cute boy/girl if they would be your bf/gf, with a YES answer!

That sick, disgusting feeling you got when you got that breakup note passed to you in study hall, the one with no explanation.

Having my parents tell me I was "too little" to do some of the things
I
wanted to do.
But, somehow, when it came to things my PARENTS wanted me to do, and I didn't --- they'd tell me all about how I was a "BIG" boy now, and what they wanted me to do is what BIG boys did, ----- because BIG boys wanted to do those things.

Good memories are far and few between but going out on the Delta with my dad is his boat is the thing I miss the most.

Swimming - it seems that's all I did during the summer - in the bay, in Hood Canal, in Lost Lake, and in the creek! My mom taught me how to swim and I still remember her in her black swimsuit, floating on her back, spitting water up in the air - acting like a whale! She was a hoot in the water! I still love to swim!

Driving the tractor through the field as Dad and his cousin threw the bales on the wagon and my uncle stacking them. That lasted until I was showing off how I could get the bales up on the wagon
Then dad stacked, old uncle Herb drove and I got stuck walking along tossing bales on the wagon!
Stopped showing off after that!

When I was about 5, my father was stationed in Korea and we went to live in the small rural community that both of my parents were from. We lived in a house across the road from my grandfather's country store. It had wooden floors, glass jars full of cookies, horizontal coolers full of Coke, Pepsi, RC Cola, Yahoo, etc., horizontal freezers full of ice cream in many different forms, etc. Many, many days, any hope my poor mother had of getting green vegetables into my scrawny hide were completely shot to hell be early afternoon. Closest I've been to heaven yet.
