Well most of the Ole Timers here know my background on the Bump and Run...but for you Newbies...I like it ..as a Last Lap Technique ! If you have a decidely faster car and the driver ahead of you is not Mark Martin or his Brother..this technique is appropriate , when used properly ! Normally when you have a slower driver who gives you the preferred line and races you door to door or bumper to bumper this technique is not req'd ! Unfortunately Great Drivers are few and far between , Great Blockers on the other hand are quite abundant in Nascar these days ! As for Jeff Gordon .....he's used the bump and run effectively when required , as for Jeff Burton he has been looked down upon for his lack of use of this technique , as a less than aggressive driver. This bears much resemblence to his former mentor Mark Martin , to which many fan's state nether shall ever win a Cup Championship for this very reason. So , when Burton raced Kyle cleanly it should have been of no surprise...Splitter or No Splitter !

As far as what J.Gordon would have done if he would have been in second, He would have done what he always does when he can't get around someone on the last lap and Knocked Busch out of the way. I have learned over the years that if J.Gordon is in second and he is close enough to the First place car he will do whatever it takes to win and it doesn't matter WHO it is either.
Always?! Oh really? Flame, flame, flame.
Do you have any idea how many races Jeff Gordon has come in second? Remember this one?:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxjuXoQyJjg
Outside of you FAGs, Jeff Gordon has a reputation as a clean driver. But he will not ride around in second in the closing laps behind someone--like Rustyboy at Bristol--who has worn his stuff out and is showing off his mirror-driving skills. Nor should he. I don't pay my good money to watch the leader drive like a blue-hair in the left lane on a Sunday after church.
>>I think J.Burton Nailed it when he said, If somebody has to get into someone just to win then he does NOT consider it a Win. I always thought the best car won not the guy who can Wreck someone the best LOL. I am also going off of History.<<
Well, isn't that special. After Kyle--with his 70-lap older tires--threw the second block on Jeff Burton, Burton should have nudged 'em aside. RCR and Cingulair aren't paying Mr. Burton to win the Miss Congeniality title.
As far as what Gordon would have done, we don't have to guess about it. He told us on his radio. Since Kyle was a teammate, Jeff wasn't going to move him, even on fresher tires. But if he got a nose alongside and the Shrub threw a block.... As the old saying goes, "Eight tires corner better than four."
And since I'm sure you're gonna bring it up, let me make something clear for you. Nerfing a rollin' roadblock out of the way comes under the heading of "rubbing is racing." That night at Bristol, Texas Terry had a faster car. The only prayer that beady-eye little sneak-cheat in that nasty black 3 car had of winning was to use Terry's bumper instead of his own brakes. And that's what he did. And that's why REAL race fans booed the hell out of him AS HE CLIMBED OUT OF HIS CAR (and don't give me that lame mess about they were really booing Mr. Excitement; the real chorus of boos came when that little weasel slunk out of his car.).

Pushing someone out of the way at the end of the race is a tradition in racing that is much older than most of us. One word: Intimidator. Having said that, I'm quite sure Jeff would be willing to bang fenders with a team mate, going for the line, but I really don't think he would have knocked him into the fence. People are still talking about what Vickers did to JJ last year in Alabama. Using Jeff Burton's logic, do you think Brian thinks he has one Cup win on his resume?
I don't think he would have knocked him into the fence on Purpose. It all depends on the person getting hit or if they can save it or smack the wall. Rusty could drive out of the Bump & Run but Kyle Busch probably would have hit the wall LOL. If JJ had been leading then NO ONE would have even caught up to him.

In my opinion, the classic bump and run --- properly executed --- is an art-form, pure and simple. As a race winds down to the final laps and two drivers are going for the same chunk of real estate, with the superior car running second and the car in the lead won't budge, give 'em a nudge and listen to 'em yell, "OH FUDGE!"
When a slower car or a less capable driver covers their buttox as they attempt to stay in the lead, it's called "racin'." I'm not a fan of actual blocking though, and I see a difference betwixt blocking and running a line that, hopefully, will take the preferred line away from a driver attempting to pass. I also think that a driver in the lead who has a pretty good chance of getting turned or bobbled enough to lose several positions in their attempt to hold their lead isn't thinking of the bigger picture. There are times to race for the win, and with the way NA$CAR has things set up now, there are times when it may be better to settle for second place points rather than lose several positions as a result of the chrome horn. However, when white flag fever sets in, I'm sure it affects the thought process.
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda,.......... but that's another story.
I noticed that Jeff Gordon's name has been mentioned several times. Hail! I darned near fell right outta my high back, reclining, rolling, multi-tasking computer chair with armrests when I read Blu's comments.
But ol' Blu caused my brain to spark back a memory from a few years back. Thanx Blu!
Payback. We all know what that is, right?
Remember when Jeff Gordon and that Rusty guy were at war over the bump and run at Bristol? Jeff nudged Rusty enough to bobble him and Jeff won the race. At the next Bristol race Rusty returned the favor like a clod and put Jeff into the wall, hard, and Rusty won. Everyone was anticipating a big payback in the form of another bump and run from Jeff and the big question was which race would Jeff pick to stuff Rusty.
Jeff proved to be a very clever driver, waiting for the perfect opportunity. And that opportuniny came a-knockin' when Jeff was on the pole and Rusty was right up there behind him. EVERYbody just KNEW it was gonna happen. And it did. Just not in the way Rusty, and many fans predicted.
When the pace car pulled onto pit road for the start of the race, Jeff brought the pack to the starting line in a controlled manner, then, abruptly slowed down, watching Rusty go streaking past the Dupont Chevy, and across the starting line ahead of Jeff.
Ooppps!
Jeff suckered ol' Rusty and played him for the fool, as NA$CAR black flagged Rusty and put him in the back of the pack for the restart. Poor ol' Rusty never did catch up. But what could Rusty say? As it turned out, Rusty beat himself and paid himself back.
That clever waskel, Jeff Gordon.
Read Rusty like a book.
He who laughs last answers to the name, Jeff Gordon.
The rest of us laughted AT Rusty.

The COT along with Toyota iis still in it's infancy. Any race fan out who thought either was not going to have problems your were kidding yourselves. The team with the best R&D is going to be the best plain and simple.
