ESPN.com writer Tim Colishaw writes about the difference between drivers, saying that when Junior was wrecked, taking away a potential race, he went over and helped out the team of the guy who wrecked him....but Kurt Busch?

"Kurt, whose hopes for victory were dashed by a green-flag pit stop just before a caution came out, had this to say when approached by an ESPN reporter:

'[Expletive] off.'

The Busch boys need to lighten up. They need to take a lesson from Dale Jr., who showed that even on a bad day, the opportunity to drive a race car for a few laps -- even one that isn't his -- is a darned nice privilege, not a God-given right."

Exactly. They also need to remember that a relatively small number of people ever actually meet them in person or go to the track...and the only way their fans get to know them is what they read...which is written by reporters.

I never heard that Kurt Busch had that response to a reporter, and I didn't know he was involved in the Dale Jr wreck.  I thought that was Kyle.

Interesting quote.  But with regard to Kyle, has anybody actually seen a report on why he left the track?  Did he storm off in a rage, or was there just a mis-communication with his crew?  The boy has shown a temper a time or two.  Nothing in the league of Tony the Terrible, but jerkish nevertheless.   But it seems to me a lot of folks are jumping to the conclusion that he stormed off this time and I haven't seen any reports to back that up.

He left the track because he thought the car was too damaged to be fixed....

Yeah, that's what I heard too, KBF.

I gotta say, I can't believe all the fuss and criticism over Lilly getting in the 5 car.  I've gotta agree with the Boy himself--it was cool--way cool--and very old school.  No checkin' the contract or callin' the sponsors.  No askin' permission of the corporate suits.  Just hop in a competitor's car and see how it drives.   Grin

It also gave Amy and Kim the chance to write the funniest top-10 column of the season.  I wonder if Lilly DID press the mike button and say hi to the 24?   Grin

I gotta admit, I'm beginning to like June Bug more and more.  I'm even warming a little--JUST a little--to the Red Army, although if they keep booing the 20 and succeed in making the Furry Pumpkin pee his pants and run home to momma in the sprint cars, I'm not gonna be happy with 'em.  Heroes and villians are a big part of this sport and I've got to have MY 20 to boo.   Grin

1. Kyle disappeared.
2. Kurt told he reporter to "F-Off."
3. Junior drove the #5 car and was civil with everyone even though he'd been wrecked.

Re-read the article I posted. It clearly says Kurt had his little explosion after his "hopes for victory were dashed by a green-flag pit stop just before a caution came out". The reporter's point was that BOTH Busch brothers could take a lesson from Junior's behavior.

And, oddly, this hasn't yet shown up on Jayki's site, so "go there" all you want. It's on ESPN's site.

Now, now Ty.

Does anybody remember what Kyle did after winning his first race in California?  Hint: it was run on 9/4/05.

Thanks for the link. Many things get said by drivers that don't always get "reported".
