Scotty Nolan Earns The Green In Brown Hobby Special
LAKE CITY, FL (4/21) - Round Two of the Brown Motorsports Summer Spectacular
presented by E.H. Contracting got under way at North Florida Speedway.
Scotty Nolan made the most of his pole position starting spot by attaining
the lead over the 17-car field. After a few early cautions the cars were
able to enjoy an extended green flag run. Tim Nolan used this to his
advantage to capture second on the sixth lap, catch his brother Scotty on
the seventh lap, and pass him on the eighth. The pack strung out late in the
event and traffic slowed Tim and let Scotty have one more chance for the
win. Traffic gave, then took away when Scotty got bottled up behind a slower
car and Tim resumed on uncontested to the victory. The post-race technical
inspection for the top five cars resulted in a disqualification of the first
place finisher's ride and as a result Scotty Nolan was awarded the win.
Heath Walker was awarded second, Travis Barnes third, Jeff Terrell fourth,
and David Miller Jr. fifth.
Jake Wood made good from his pole starting spot to take a wire to wire win
in the B-Modifieds. The low-dollar open wheeled class picked up a few new
cars this week but the names in the top five finishers were familiar as Wood
was trailed by Ronnie Chance who started in the back of the field to take
second, Nick Kirkus, Frank Premorel, and Kenny Blair.
Earl Boyett took the measure of polesitter Robbie Disbrow and proceeded to
romp over the Late Model field. At one point Boyett had a half lap lead over
the pack. Fortunately the race from second through fifth was more
competitive while the event lasted. Boyett took a comfortable win over
Wendall Miller, Billy Costello, Seth Caudill, and Disbrow.
Randy Merwin led 'em all from flag to flag in the Street Stock main event.
Merwin had his hands full holding off Kevin Davis, Dean Sands, and David
Ponton for the balance of the race, but was up to the task and ran a smooth,
consistent line to thwart his rivals. Unfortunately for Merwin, his apparent
winning effort was negated in the pits as the tech area claimed another
victim which allowed Sands to pick up the victory, his third of the points
season. Davis was second, newcomer Damien Clayton finished third, David Hart
was fourth, and Sonny Thompson finished fifth.
Shane Taylor started eighth in the Pure Stock feature but didn't stay there
for long. He was second by lap five and took first from Gerald Lewis on the
twelfth rotation while the leaders were battling in heavy lapped traffic.
Rick Reed tried to keep it close in the last part of the race, however,
Taylor was just too fast and picked up win number four. Following Taylor and
Reed was Lewis, Clay McRae, and Russ Moseley.
The Winged Sprint cars come back this Saturday along with the A-Modifieds,
Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and Pure Stocks. For more
