Second-degree assault/attempted assault, most likely.

I could have sworn a couple of times today, I saw stuff coming out of the stands when the cars were at speed. That is criminal.
Chucking a beer can over the fence at a car tooling around the track under caution.....I don't know that that's grounds for incarciration. I'm guessing somewhere in Alabama at that time, there is probably a greater crime being commited.

YEAH!
Throwing a full can of beer would sure qualify as that.

Yep, it looked like one of those huge, restaurant "el cheapo" rolls.
Thinking about the possible weight of that thing, that fan must have some arm to launch that onto the track

One person could ruin it for everyone. Nascar may come back and say they will take ONE race away from Talledega next season and it very well could happen. The drivers may also say they are NOT coming back until something is done, Granted there is only one driver who gets items thrown at him but what happens when someone else wins or they ACCIDENTLY spin Jr out? Nascar can't arrest everyone who throws things so those people will be back next year to do it again.

I think Flammer it is more likely that Nascar shall eliminate personal alcoholic beverages within the Seating Areas . Only Vendor Sold Beverage's contained in Paper or Plastic Cups will be made available. This is the norm within Stick and Ball Sports , and I cannot remember any beer bottles or cans being thrown on the Ice , or Fields as has become unfortunately so frequent , the last few seasons in Nascar. The occasional Sports Drink or Cola...thrown down from the stands towards players returning to their dressing rooms I do recall but nothing on the field of play for quite a while . I think the worst I recall was some ass throwing a golf ball towards Football Player , and another idiot throwing pennies at an opposing Outfielder during a game both were ejected and arrested and charged by the local authorities . Pretty Sad when idiots can ruin it for the majority of Fan's !

I think that is where the future is headed also.In Philly they will give you the plastic bottle without cups at both outdoor stadiums, but if you wing one at an Eagles game, you will get caught. And also ..no beer after half at football, no beer after 7 innings, so i would also bet no alcohol sold after half way of a race.

Let's be fair. Jimmie Johnson gets stuff thrown at him too. And when Dale Earnhardt Jr. hisself wrecked another driver (memory is foggy right now, I think it was Carl Edwards) a few dozen beer cans were thrown at him too. The ugliest fan related incident I can recall (in the modern era discounting the Asheville riot) is when Ray Evernham and his wife were surrounded and spat upon after Jeff Gordon won the Winston.
Hey, this is the year 2007. Half the fans in the stands have cell phones with camera capability. I suggest fans disgusted with the behavior of the can tossers take photos of them around them tossing cans and forward them to track security. Let the police track them down and arrest them. You might imagine if a fan was drunk enough to throw a can getting pulled over on the way home from the track is going to be a real expensive and life altering situation.
But don't paint all NASCAR fans who enjoy a brew during a race with the same brush. I seem to recall that MLB fans regularly pelt players with D cell batteries and as a resident of the far Philly suburbs I remember our hometown fans pelting Santa Claus with snowballs, not to forget the shameful Monday night game where fireworks were thrown on the field and flare guns fired at players. And didn't that dickwad that killed his baby along with his witch of a girlfriend in Delaware get arrested for throwing a beer can at a football game?

I think you are 100% right Ty...
I was gonna post the same thing.
Whats gonna happen is that this is just another thing that France / ISC is going to find a way to put more money in
their
pockets, and gouge the race fans more.
They'll just make a rule... "
NO Coolers
"
SO that'll eliminate all drinks, most food, etc.
They'll make you buy everything at the concession stands. Go stand in line, and miss 1/2 the race doing it.
I would say .. just a "few" make it bad on everyone.... but I saw a lot (and I mean a LOT) of can and stuff tossed on the track.
this isn't the first time,.. so I suspect NASCAR will do
something
... especially since Gordon looks to be back winning again and he seems to draw the most reaction

Because of the known potential for trouble prior to this race, esp. after Gordon won the pole I gave eight folks who regularly email me and were going to be at Talladega today my home phone number and asked them to call me to let me know what was going on after the race. Seven called. All reported a ton of cans thrown onto the track. One said she saw a fan struck in the head by an errant can being helped by medical personnel. Another saw a deputy trying to arrest a can-tosser knocked on his butt and separated from the person he was trying to arrest by angry people as the subject fled. Trust me you're going to hear more about this this week.
