hi Jim
Welcome to the board
I think your idea is interesting... IMO you couldn't do it all one one day. First of all just not enough hours in a day...
Do pre heat race tech... then post race tech... the pre main race tech... just not doable time wise.
IMO opinion if you could do it you would have to do it like on Saturday..... the have the Main on Sunday.
Still if you have a race like at DEGA,.. and have "the big one" you would have most of the field wiped out in a heat race... and some of the cars that got totaled still end up making the Main. Then you have to pull out back up cars with no practice, what if a low budget team don't have a backup car...??
Just run into a birage of problems
Not really a bad idea... could use some tweaking... and could end up doing away with BGN races. I think there should be a practice session between the heat races and the main race.
Other problem too Chris is Saturday Is usually the busch race, and that day is busy enough without adding heat races for cup

Actually thats what people seem to be doing..
Have you saw the TV rating over the last two years...
they keep going down year after year... pretty much no matter what the race.
I think the folks that are sticking it out are just pointing out WHY they folks are leaving, and what they see wrong.
IMO I'd just like to see it run on an up and up basis, and consistent from week to week.
And the IRL, CART and other racing leagues wished they had NASCAR Cup problems. You don't see anyone filling a law suit to get an IRL, CART or other racing league date do you?

Pay attention NASCAR...here's my idea.
Scrap the time trial model that's been used for so long and move to Heat Races like all of the local tracks.
Give me a 200 mile Main event with a few heat races before hand, and I'll enjoy Race Day a whole lot more.
Whadya think folks?
Of all the goofy things NA$CAR has done to mess with tradition, THAT idea actually makes some sense. And, as you pointed out, it could be seen as a return to the roots of stock car racing.
But how do we handle the points deal?

I think it'd be best to give some points for the top finishers of the qualifying heats -- like bonus points now for leading and winning -- to encourage racing for best finish in the heat races.

Personally I don't want to see my guys car wrecked in a "Heat" before they Even race.
They have a hard enough time qualifying and staying out of the wall sometimes.
I understand that concern -- and it's legit -- yet there are guys that get wrecked early in a 500 miler, and I think they're basically getting wrecked "before they even race" anyway.

Thanks!
I think it's doable. Regular pre-race inspection and post- race inspection. Good enough. The whole point of my idea is to get rid of the long, least exciting parts of the race weekend, and give it a little more excitement, return it to the roots a bit like our locals short tracks.
...and it's just an idea
obviously not necessarily a well-thought out one...

I keep Hearing & Reading about how Nascar is going to change the Qualifying but IMO it's a bunch of Garbage.
At my Local Short Track qualifying goes as follows.
If they have 20 Starting Positions then the Fastest 20 cars are going to race and it doesn't matter if 500 cars show up. Isn't that what QUALIFY means?
IMO Nascar needs to sit down and figure out how many cars they want to start EVERY weekend and that Number will stay the same for the remainder of the season.
If the Number is 45 then the Fastest 45 cars are going to race on Sunday and everybody else will load up and try again next week.
The Champions Provisional is nothing but a waste of a position to me. Look how many times DW used his Provisionals and I wonder how many GOOD Teams missed the race so he could ride around in circles?
Nascar should do away with the Top 35 in this and the Top 35 in that and a Provisional for this guy and one for that guy and let the fastest guys race, The way it should be.
D.Jarrett would have missed the last 5 races or so if not for the Provisionals but how about the team who had to go home JUST because there was a Special Spot for him.
And NO I am NOT picking on DJ or DW I just used them as an example so please NO Hate Mail.
IMO if a Team can't make the race then they need to do some work or maybe make some changes.
Why should Nascar have to keep making changes just so teams can qualify?
I was reading somewhere and they said so and so BARELY missed the race and I thought, Yeah but they DID miss the race so go back to the shop and figure out WHY you only missed it by a Tenth or whatever.
I also think if you win the Pole you should have the first Pit Stall and do away with letting the Champion pick his first. He won the Championship so that tells me that team is pretty good so it shouldn't matter if he has the 1st or the 10th pit stall.

yeah.. I agree... if it hadn't been "this" so and soo... it would of been a "different" so and so.... there's ALWAYS gonna be SOMEONE just barely miss.

I think this was brought up before... I also think they did away with this. Seems NASCAR figured out it was too much of an advantage for a driver to cary for a whole year just because he was the previous years champ.
I know I've heard them say several time on TV "So and so won the pole, so he got to pick his pit position first".
Someone tried to tell me I was currently incorrect,.. but I don't believe so....??

Well THEY were WRONG Chris.
If Tony Stewart wins the Pole then he gets FIRST pick on what Pit-Stall he wants. It's ALWAYS been like that.

Once, I thought I was wrong.
But I was mistaken.
Don't fret, Chris.
When you're right, you're right.
Am I wrong?

well not exactly... beck several years ago... NASCAR did have the process where the previous season champion ALWAYS picked first no matter where he qualified,.. then the pole winner picked next.
It was that way every week...
NASCAR decided that was too much of an "advantage" for winning the CUP the previous year,.. (and also played into helping repeat because a great pit selection is so important I assume)
ANyway,... they changed from that to the way it is now...
