Personnally i think the beer can toseing fans did more damage to Nascar than anything Tony steward could say, we are know the cautions are called at certain times to liven up the show.    For as the media they will always cover the bad news with a lot more aggression than the good news. Did u see anywhere in the national media about Hamlin, Burton, sadler giving money to VT sports, no but the beer cans down the front stretch made mention on every newscast

Yeah,.. and thats just wrong.
IMO I think it's EVERY bit as exciting to run long green runs, and see the race progress through green flag pit stops.
NASCAR don't need to 'generate' and artificial excitement.
IMO I think it's exciting to watch the round of pit stops begin,.. then watch (and wonder) if the round will get done completely or if someone will wreck, etc in the middle of green flag stops and change the whole complexion of the race.  The whole time pit stops are going on... there you sit, just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Not to mention the pit crew is REALLY under the gun... the drivers loses a LOT more time if the pit crew makes a mistake under the green then they do under the 'artificial' yellow.
You don't have to have a yellow and bunch up the field to make the race exciting....
