Bank of America Cup? When word of the shake-up [Nextel personnel] first broke in April, Sprint executives insisted they were committed to continuing the NASCAR sponsorship, despite reports otherwise that the new powers were less than interested in NASCAR. Now, according to sources familiar with the situation, there are reports that Bank of America executives are interested in acquiring the title sponsorship to the Cup series

hhuummm... I MAY be wrong,... But I've always said ever since Sprint bought out Nextel they would try and find a way to get OUT of Sponsoring the CUP series...
Maybe I'm wrong,.. this will tell the tale.

As we all know,... when you buy a company you buy EVERYTHING... assests, and liabilities.
Sprint never indicated sponsoring the CUP series would be an "asset" to it's business.  They wanted to get all the customers Nextel had, pick up their service area, etc etc... It was ALL about the cell phone business.  IMO they have just had to 'put on a happy face' and make good appearances because Nascar is so popular and has such a huge following.
Now if anyone has been keeping up with this deal,.. you will know that the MAIN people supporting this and responsible for bringing Nextel to Nascar have all been fired (politely said "jobs eliminated")
Quote
Sprint Nextel?s NASCAR Marketing Manager Mike Mooney, along with Jill Gregory and Michael Robichaud, were the three most visible executives in Nextel?s NASCAR program when it began prior to the 2004 season. But with Gregory and Robichaud already gone and Mooney leaving as of next Friday, the key strategists behind Nextel?s initial foray into NASCAR are all gone
Now in reading CLOSELY (buried in the many stories) I see that this Jill Gregory has gone to (guess where) Bank of America....
Quote
Jill Gregory, the director of NASCAR Nextel Series marketing since 2004, is leaving to join Bank of America's new NASCAR marketing operation
Anyone starting to see a tie-in here...
Stay tuned folks.... if there IS an announcement this week,.. there may be ANOTHER to follow.

Hmmm, interesting...maybe THEN I'll finally be able to get some NASCAR checks!!;) Cheesy

I've said it before, I'll say it again...I don't care what they call it, as long as they keep "Cup" in it...because ever since Winston left, "Cup" is what I've called it.

WELL... It's been "Denied" that Bank Of America will be the series sponsor...

ON the OTHER Hand,... all this stuff was put out that a "big OFFICIAL announcement" would be made at Daytona that Sprint would be a the official sponsor and all the details would be released.

WELL... Daytona came and went... NO WORD... not even a mention.  Lips Sealed
Makes you go hhuummmmRoll Eyes  Huh?  Wink   maybe there IS some validity to this Bank of America stuff.  Just got out BEFORE it was SUPPOSED to,.. so OF COURSE they had to deny it.

yeah,.. I heard that too...
just confusing when they were "supposed" to make a "big" announcement a week or so ago, "confirming" all this big committment by Sprint and their involvement...
before that they were supposed to make an announcement,.. then it got pushed back to Daytona (for SURE)
And so far... NOTHING
just makes you go HHUUMMMM
