By DAVID POOLE - The Charlotte Observer
Kyle Busch said Thursday that he has not yet talked with any other race team about where he will drive next season after leaving Hendrick Motorsports at season’s end.

“This is all brand new,” Busch said in an interview on “The Driver’s Seat” on Sirius Satellite Radio. “I haven’t talked or discussed or done anything with any other team.”

...

But Busch said he only found out Monday that he would be out and Earnhardt Jr. would be in starting next year.

“It’s tough,” Busch said. “You look forward to the future, that’s what you have to do. I think we can all make the best of it.

“This is all new to me, and having to do it at age 22 is a little more difficult than it might be if I were older and wiser.”

Hendrick said he believed other team owners had tried to pique Busch’s interests by suggesting that he could become the No. 1 driver on their team, as opposed to being on the Hendrick team with Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.

“That’s not something that I am too interested in,” Busch said.

“The biggest thing I am interested in going wherever I can win races, be up front and contend for championships. That’s the ultimate goal.”

Busch said one reason he left a developmental deal with Roush Racing to sign with Hendrick in the first place was to “get out of the shadow” of his older brother, Kurt, who was then at Roush. Kurt Busch now drives for Penske Racing, and Kyle said he didn’t know if going there would be an option he considers.

“Maybe that wouldn’t be the best scenario to get back into,” he said.

Hmmm.

The talk has been that Kyle had asked to released next year to look at other options.  From the tone of this it makes it sound as if Hendrick just kicked him out.  There is an old saying that you better be careful what you wish for because your dream could come true.  It sounds to me like that is likely what happened to Kyle.

I for one can't imagine Kyle and other teams were not testing the waters as his current contract neared it's end. It just makes sense for Kyle to "check his worth" and for other teams to try and pull in a driver with from HMS who will bring some insight to the organization (and how they can apply that to their own organization).  Love him or not (I'm in the latter group), he has proven he can win and do it in dominating fashion at times.  All of that said, I can imagine Monday came as a rude awakening that he is only now getting his mind wrapped around.

Kyle is a "Checkers or Wreckers" kinda guy...
More often than not he falls into the Wreckers group... especially lately...
Not a good time to have to go job hunting...

DEI will be LOOKING for a driver... I'm not sure where else he could go..??
DOn't think he could fit into the "mold" at RCR...
I can't see him at Ginn (but a possibility)...
Can't see him at Penske with Big brother...
Roush is full up... he's leaving HMS... thats about it...

Well you do have JGR. And Mike Arning (Smoke's PR guy) has just taken over being Kyle's PR guy. I really could see Kyle fitting in pretty nicely at JGR. And both Joe and JD are use to a guy with a short temper and over agressive driving some times. And the one thing that JGR can give Kyle that most of the teams left can't give him is a chance to win a Championship.

BOY.. I could see THAT duo...
Tony and Kyle... having a run in... wrecking each other.
Team-mates taking each other out.... yeah I'm sure Joe would just LOVE that.

Ohh..come now Smyler. The (ahem) "quality guy" that is Rick Hendrick would NEVER do something like that!! Blasphemy!! Shocked

Everyone who leaves HMS is  happy, well taken care of, and better for the experience. Im sure Kyle is just happy to have walked the hallowed ground  (albeit for a short time), and to have touched the hand of greatness (although fleetingly).

It seems almost cruel to have experienced "heaven " to only be thrown out like garbage. Perhaps...at somepoint..Kyle will  once again....enter the gates, and touch the hand....sigh

Man...It seems to me that some of you HMS guys are quick to distance youselves from and, really hard on exHMS folks. It seemed just last week Kyle was just a wayward son, a good driver that just  need a little quidance and  "Papa Rick" talk.

 I know..I know..."heaven" is not for everyone....

There's more to being a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver these days than winning (some) races--a lot more. Kyle's just starting to learn that. He'll grow up eventually. Rick Hendrick (apparently) hoped it would be sooner rather than later, but as I said elsewhere, things like leaving the track before the race is over and telling reporters that the COT "sucks" demonstrate that he's got some maturing to do.

Ahh..I see now.

Kyle just isnt HMS material...yet.

Perhaps one day...

Wonder why Vickers left? I felt sorry for him there. He was the only HMS driver I ever rooted for. Undecided

I'm wondering if Rick might not have to...not so much lower as broaden..his standards when he brings Junior on. The guy has a well-developed public persona (which is different from the current HMS standards in terms of dress, appearance, and language) and I have to figure that was part of what he hired.
