"Ice Road Truckers" show on History Channel

Any of you truckers watching this show? H.H.? Sunkist?
It comes on Sunday nights @ 10 pm on the History Channel. (There's a "marathon" of the show going on as I type and post this...)
There's diamond mines in Canada's Nortwest Territories. The only time freight can reach them is during the winter months when the lakes are frozen over at least 24 inches thick.
This means they only have about 2 months to move a whole years worth of parts and supplies.
The "road" (if you can call it a road) is about 300 kilometers and 85% of it is over frozen lakes.
Seems simple, right? Wrong.
While driving on the ice you are limited to 15 mph. This is because as the trucks drive - the ice sags a little bit. This creates a "bow wave" under the ice. When trucks going opposite ways approach each other the waves meet. If the truck goes faster than 15 mph the wave gets big enough to actually cause the ice to "explode" when the two bow waves meet.
Not to mention the "white out" conditions, freezing air brake llines & temperatures sometimes going colder than 40 below ! !
Wow... What a show.

When I go to casinos, the most ridiculous sign I see is the one that says:
"If you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER."
So, I call them and say,
"I have an ace and a six. The dealer has a seven. What do I do?"

I like a challenge but - I wouldn't do that neither...
100,000 pound - multi-million dollar loads - on ice? That's just plain crazy...
But, I imagine the chance of earning a years pay in 2 months is a temptation some cannot resist.

Ice Road Truckers?
Yup!
I recorded every episode.
I like to follow the individual drivers and their attitudes.
I can identify with Jay and TJ, but Hugh?
I think he put drivers in junk and expected them to make HIM big bucks.
Imagine NO heater when it's -45 degrees?
While Hugh calls those drivers "whiney little girls girls" and laughs in his heated cab.
Alex is cool.
The singing cowboy was a disaster looking for a place to happen.
Upon being banned from the Ice Road, he said he was through with truckin'.
I say GOOD!
That guy scares the S hip H igh I n T ransit outta me!
As for the years pay in two months, remember, that's Canadian dollars.
When I first started watching the series, and heard that ice road crackle under the weight, I thought HAIL NO, I wouldn't go,........
but after watching more of it, I think I'd go for the challenge. Not to run like a chicken with it's head chopped off, but at a more relaxed pace.
They say that many drivers only make a trip or two on the Ice Road and head south.
Seen any in Sandy Eggo?
Yet.
Uh OH!
Ice is melting!
Gotta go now,.................................>>>>>>>>>>>>

The only "ice truckers" down here are the ones one "truckin' " on ice skates at the few indoor rinks we have.
I agree about Hugh. He doesn't give a crap about his drivers. I hope Drew got to see the episode where Hugh brought in a close friend to drive the truck Drew drove. Drew wasn't imagining the problems he was having with that P.O.C. (piece o crap) tractor...

Yeah!
What happened to that guy?
Only saw him for a flash.
But he knew what he was talkin' 'bout.
Probably told Hugh, "no way Jose!"
By the way, did y'all notice the way Alex shifts gears?
With his finger tips!
Yeah buddy!
I KNOW how THAT feels.
No clutch --- just float the gears.
Like a hot knife through Wisconsin butter ------ smooth.
And his laugh!
Ya reckon any of them are NASCAR fans?

Hey HH!
Is that the guy who was complaining about his boss not wanting to put any money in the trucks but he expected to make alot of money? I also think he was the guy who had his Air-Lines freeze up and couldn't get them re-connected.

I think that Drews replacement wasn't gonna put up with Hugh's BS and hauled butt outta there...
Can you believe the total tonnage H.H.? WOW...
For those that missed it - the whole season is going to be repeated, starting next Sunday, 8/26 on History Channel - check your tv lineup for the times...

Which one?
ALL of Hugh's drivers complained about the trucks Huge put them in. For good reason, I think.
The "cowboy" I made reference to was kicked to the curb for going 23 km OVER the 15 km speed limit.
Claims he "didn't see" the signs.
The Powers That Be did though, and sent him packing.
Drew's truck was a clunker. Ol' Hugh probably bought three cheap over-the-road Big trucks and figured he'd make bank on running four trucks.
OTR trucks don't hold up so well in Ice Road conditions. But expecting drivers to go without working heaters is going too far. Then, to call them "whiney little girls" for complaining about frostbite, ...............
Rick was the last of Hugh's drivers to head south. Rick works for Hugh full time -- year 'round in Hugh's excavating business, and said because of Hugh's attitude, he wouldn't be working for Hugh AT ALL, anymore.
Hugh laughed.
Rick WAS a friend.

Yup!
A "whiney little girl", no doubt.
But from what I heard of him describing the truck's performance, or lack thereof, I'm inclined to think he KNEW what he was talkin' 'bout.
Can you believe the total tonnage H.H.? WOW...
No chit!
And check the tire pressure please.
How about that 110,000 pound scrubber? Oversize and rock and roll.
That was TJ, the 25 -year-old driver with what, seven years Ice Road experience already? That young man wanted all the big loads he could get his fifth wheel under.
I liked his attitude too.
And didja check out that Peterbilt he was driving? Tell me THAT truck wasn't spec'd for the job at hand. I'm sure that Big Cat under the hood helped too. He had NO major break downs.
Imagine that.

Ice Road Truckers folks!

yeah.. I watch the premier episode for 2007 a just a couple weeks ago... now the final episode last night.
makes me wonder what all I missed in between.
I was impressed with that (think he was 16 year old) that was there for the first time.
He was rookie of the year.
I know the first trip seemed to throw a lot at him. Driving at night on the lake (had to make his butt hole pucker up just pulling on that lake for the first time and hearing it crack) then he had a blizzard, and total whiteout conditions. Couldn't see the guys tail lights in front of him
Had to keep driving or get hit from behind,.... didn't know if he was on the road or not. Thats a lot for a 'first trip'
Kid seems to have a good head on his shoulders

Yeah, that sow would be fine except for Hugh. If I were to drive one of pieces of crap, I would tell him to switch trucks with me and see how long he goes before he becomes a "whiney little girl".
This show will be Hugh's downfall. Now EVERYONE will know him for the prick he really is. I'd like to see how many drivers he'll get to drive for him this coming winter now that he has been exposed.

I found the series really interesting. Gotta give those guys some props for doing what they do. I'm pretty sure I couldn't last like they do - I really would whine like a girl - oh yeah - I is one.
I missed the last several shows, so I'm glad they will be repeating the series. Boy, you never know what some people do to make a living.
