Well today the Concord planning and zoning commission recommended that the City Council approve the dragstrip ... which of course was already approved and zoning granted until an article appeared the The Charlotte Observer the day before the manure hit the oscillator ... what the Commission did by changing the zoning to read "except dragstrips" was illegal and Bruton Smith had a legitimate right to be angry.

Anyhow the public hearing is now set for 6 pm on October 26 (a Friday night), so will be interesting.

I attended the race last Saturday and parked where the dragstrip will be located.  Didn't appear to my eye to have been that much work done - it was graded some but one would realize that a whole lot more grading needs to be done before the strip reaches the required distance with runoff area.  And the closest new homes I could see were way off in the distance.  I live 6 miles away and would love to be closer.   Smiley

Oh well, we'll see what happens on the 26th.

Friday night... thats a "convenient" night to schedule a public meeting if you don't want anyone to show up and oppose it.
Consider all this.  Friday night is high school football games, family nights out, etc...  so since the city council open this can of worms, and NOW ishes it would all just go away... I can see them deciding to have it on a Friday night that is the WORST night for people to attend.
