# NASCAR to increase age limit? A reliable inside source tells rowdy.com that NASCAR is seriously considering raising the age limit for drivers in the Sprint Cup Series from the current 18 years of age to 21. Should the change happen, and a decision has not yet been made according to the source, the driver who comes most quickly to the mind of Rowdy listeners is phenom Joey Logano. Logano, currently with Joe Gibbs Racing, turns 18 on May 24th of this year (he's scheduled to make his Nationwide Series debut at Dover shortly afterward), and under the current rules he would be eligible for Cup duty in 2009. Presumably any change would affect the Sprint Cup series only.(Rowdy.com)(1-16-2008) Comment here

hhumm I can't say I agree with all this...
Guys start racing at 5 and 6 years old now days... so it's not like they JUST got behind the wheel at age 16.
We had a guy in our GAS late model series that was 14 this past season. He finished in the top 10 in 14 of 16 events. He also finished in the top 5 in points.
When guys have that much experience why should they be able to race at NASCAR's highest levelat the age of 18..??
Why make them wait to 21.....
Here's another problem I have with that. They are saying they can't race ONLY in the CUP series... hhummm
If a guy is good enough to race 190 mph in a NGN car,... how come he can't be good enough to run that fast in an CUP car..??
It makes no sense,.... then again we are dealing with NASCAR

I have to say I pretty much agree. But on the other side of that, there's a maturity gap when it comes to 18 vs 21....not much but there is. A kid at 18 is gonna have the 'I've got nothing to lose, and these old guys are all washed up' attitude alot of the time. There's a level of respect they need to learn, and limiting their ability to race in the top tier of NASCAR will force them to become familiar with the tracks in the lower series.

Call this the "Logano doesn't drive for Hendrick" rule.
