More rumors of what actually went down come out...and this, to me, has the ring of truth. I can just see it happening!!

Jeff Owens: Give us a real fight, not fat jokes
Posted Thu., Feb. 21, 2008
COMMENTARY
Apparently, Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart’s spat prior to the Budweiser Shootout escalated into a full-fledged fight.
Over a fat joke.
That’s right – a fat joke.
Not Stewart’s surly demeanor or red-hot temper. Not Busch’s venomous tongue or vindictive nature.
But a fat joke.
After Busch and Stewart tangled and crashed during practice on Feb. 8, Busch slammed his car into Stewart’s on pit road.
But the real action spilled over into the NASCAR hauler, where the two exchanged words and Stewart allegedly threw a punch at Busch.
Over a fat joke.
According to sources, published reports and general garage-area gossip,
Stewart blew his top when Busch made a crack about his expanding waistline and his new shaggy hairdo.
Stewart is not really fat, a little pudgy maybe, but even he has enough humor to occasionally joke about it. Heck, he’s got his own talk show now, and if he’s going to be part of the media, he’s got to look the part, right?
And his new, longer hair looks a bit odd, but at least it’s different. It’s probably just Tony thumbing his nose at all the politically correct pretty boys who make up most of the Sprint Cup Series. If so, more power to him.
But I can see how Stewart might get a bit defensive when another competitor pokes fun at him. He does climb fences for a living, a lot more than Busch in the past few years, and he does have his own Subway commercial. Hey, it can be a touchy subject.
His waistline is bulging, he’s sporting a new hairstyle and then one of his smart-aleck peers makes fun of him – after wrecking him and purposely damaging his car.
Already a bit fragile emotionally – some might say a powder keg waiting to erupt – it sets him off and he takes a swing at the guy.
Happens all the time. On playgrounds all across America. And sometimes on talk shows.
This is what NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series has come to – fat jokes, hair ridicule, thrown punches and widespread rumors and gossip surrounding such ugly incidents.

I agree on both accounts....the media needs to move on because the two of them sure have.

After seeing Newman on Letterman and hearing his reaction to the questions about the "brawl," I have no more doubts that something did happen in the hauler.
Media'll move on tomorrow once we have 2 more races under our belt.

oh I disagree..
the media will hang onyo this.... until the NEXT big blowup comes along. It's all they got to talk about
When they next blowup happens,.. then they'll forget about this,.. and drone on endlessly about that one

Even though were sick of hearing about it Nascar IMO is Loving the HELL out of it.
They want everyone to think that something happened in that trailer.
As for Stewarts new Hair-Do, I was watching Back-In-The-Day during the rain delayed Qualifying and they showed Richard Petty with the EXACT same Hair-Do as Stewart has right now so whats the problem.
It has NOTHING to do with his Waist Line or his new Hair. He is Tony Stewart PERIOD.
I'm a little overweight and someone walks up to me and wants to make fun of me then they better be ready to go a couple of rounds. What does it matter how someone looks.

Especially coming from one of the brothers that had to have his ears pinned back surgically

Double standard alert--Doesn't Tony refer to "fat chicks" on his radio show as "grenades", yet he can't handle someone poking fun at his waistline? What is wrong with that picture? That doesn't excuse Kurt's actions in any way but...Tony better be glad all those "grenades" have more self control than he does. (Either that or they just don't have access to the guy to tear him apart. lol)
Kim
PS- there isn't too many drivers out there with any kind of real self control. This isn't something that is exclusive to Busch and Stewart, they are just the most recent example...at least that can be publicized.

I don't remember him saying that. I do remember him saying that when he went to Sturgis there were some girls that should not have been wearing chaps.
Tony makes fun of himself all the time about his weight so I highly doubt a fat joke was what set him off.

No, but as mad as he probably already WAS at Kurt's actions on track and on pit lane, you know and I know that probably one little crack about something could trigger him, and Kurt IS known to make sarcastic cracks about things. Not saying this story is true or not (but there's generally a kernal of truth in any rumor) but just saying in general, we've seen it in the past...and I'm a Tony fan, just being honest, we know when he's ticked off, leave him alone and let him calm down, don't make any crack about anything or try to shove a microphone in his face and expect him not to react. It's part of what we love about him...he lets us know when he is mad. So, in that way, it does seem plausible to me.

I've never heard Stewart radio show so I can't give an opinion on that BUT I have heard him make fun of himself. His quote was, "I have to carry this Fat Butt up that fence".
Now it's easy to make fun of yourself and I've done it but when someone else does it it's a little different.
