2 Firefighters are Missing

We had a bad fire near Middletown, NY tonight which is the hometown of Rustyfan2 and Corker. At this time there are two volunteer firefighters missing as they were climbing a stairwell which collapsed beneath them as they attempted to fight the fire. A third firefighter was taken to a local hospital with a knee injury but the other 2 are still missing as the FAST TEAMs continue the search for them. It is now 1: 30 AM on the East Coast so not much media coverage is being released at this time. RF2 is down there helping in the search. Please pray for these two great heroes and lets hope they are found alive.

There will be an update within the hour. I have been here all night and we now have more freezing rain. It may take just a bit longer !!
Hang in there. Rf2 has not returned my calls quite yet. !!!!

Wendy here...I've had the police give Secretariat a ride home as she has been here all night. I talked to Rf2 a few minutes ago and he told me 2 firefighters have turned up at local hospitals with minor injuries, but there are at least 2 more that have not been accounted for as of 7 am eastern time. There is extreme icing in the area and going is slow. Most schools are closed or delayed. Keep praying. We should have something soon !!!!

A little good news...2 more firefighters have been found at the local hospital injured but alive. One problem remains at this hour. One young volunteer has not been accounted for, but may not have been there in the first place. He just became a volunteer firefighter a month ago and had not even told his Mom and Dad
who live in New York City he had joined the fire company at Middletown. In addition, his regular job takes him to New York City everyday and because the fire broke out after dark, it's possible he was mistaken for somebody else. Also his boss in New York City says he was not scheduled to show up for work until 10 am today. He just might be headed to his regular job right now. Just because he doesn't answer his phone doesn't mean he was really at the fire last night.
Let's hope that is the case !!! We will let you know !!!

I have some great news folks !!!! The last missing firefighter was pulled from the rubble a little while ago and appears to have only a shoulder injury. As far as is known right now...there is no one unaccounted for in this event !!!!
There could still be some injuries that we don't know about, but as far as we know right now....everyone is still alive.
Thank you all so much for your prayers !!!!
Rf2.. come home soon !!!!!!

And thank all of you kind people here !!!
This is only half the story. 2 of my relatives who I have always had trouble with since my Viet Nam days now live in this neighborhood and caused me nothing but grief when they saw me searching. I don't know how much more of them I can take but it's been going on since the early 70's. I guess that part of it will never end but when you fight a fire in the night, it sure causes me some hard flashbacks. With all of your help here...I will make it through again !!
Thank you all so much !!!!

RustyFan,
Just curious, but don't y'all have a roll call or somehow know who's on the scene during fires and other emergencies?
Good luck with your relatives. Bad timing on their part, no doubt.
Elated to hear all of your crew are accounted for.
And thanx for allowing us to become involved through prayer.

Hey Hudson, yep we have a roll call in most departments that are paid, trouble is almost everything in most departments here are volunteer and most guys and girls are not paid a salary like myself. A lot of small departments have to depend on people who work other jobs in New York City or somewhere and jump in to help wherever they can. Some of the few kind hearted younger members don't think to follow all the rules or sometimes just don't know them because they haven't been taught by their superiors. I teach classes for an area almost 200 miles around between New York City to an area just North of Albany, New York. We just can't catch up to everybody unfortunately. We're getting closer though every year, though.
Some day we will be funded the right way to do the job right. We're just not there yet.
