This was my question #4 in today's Ten Points To Ponder column.

Whatever They Are! – Someone needs to come up with a “catchy” name for those Sprint Cup regulars that moonlight in NASCAR’s second-tier racing series that were formerly known as “Bushwhackers.” The moniker obviously is a play on words based on the former-series sponsors’ name…Busch.

What works with Nationwide?

Sure would like to get some inventive minds working on a witty name for the former Buschwhackers.

I have received one suggestion.  UM's - For Uninsured Motorists.  Maybe not a nickname that would catch on.  But...hadn't heard anything better.

How about purse snatchers, which they are.

I do believe ESPN has dubbed them "The Claim Jumpers"  and like the Lucky Dog, it has the potential to stick whether we like it or not.

And with the first reply, the debate is settled. I'm going with PurseSnatchers too. Smiley

Well I certainly like PurseSnatchers more than Claim Jumpers...that's for sure.

Heard one caller to one of the Sirius shows suggest that since they are double dippers, they should be called "The Double-D Cups"....It was so stupid, it was funny, so I, of course, have to pass it on.... Wink Grin

How about they start being called the "selfish drivers who care so little about the future of the sport that they're willing to choke off the up and coming talent in their developmental division"..........not that i'm angry about it or anything...........

I agree too...but it's not just the drivers. Sponsors, teams, and NASCAR are all playing a part in squeezing worthy talent out of rides in what was once NASCAR's AAA series.

I like Ambulance chasers. They are the people who are out to make a buck no matter what they have to do to get it.

I remember my first Busch race at Rockingham in 1998. Mark Martin in the #60 Winn-Dixie Taurus was the only Winston Cup regular "big name" I remember.

It's hard to "dumb down" and not let the corporate side of NASCAR interfere with the joy and passion of being a diehard fan.
