Help the ASPCA in it's commitment  to end animal cruelty. All you have to do is sign your name.

Take the pledge.
YES, I support the ASPCA in its steadfast commitment to end animal cruelty. I will do all that is possible to help the animals in my community live happy, healthy lives.  It's easy. It's free and it's a start!!

I'm all for the condemnation of people who are cruel to animals.  Dog and cock fighting is awful.  Abusing animals should definitely not be tolerated.  Having said that, it is important to remember that animals are animals.  They are not people.  Loving pets is great, but I have seen people who love their animals so much that they spend tens of thousands on them and yet they can't afford other basics of life.  I just can't get my mind to justify spending that much on a dog and not giving a dime to charity.  I have a friend that is so broke he is nearly homeless, and yet he spends more money on his dogs than he does on buying food for himself.  He has to rent a house because his huge dogs would not be allowed in apartments.  I don't think I am mean or bitter to think there is something wrong with that picture.  I've asked him about it and he always says he just can't get rid of his animals even though he knows he should.

An animal is definitely a gift from God.  You are not a good steward if you do not take good care of it.  I just think that as in all things it is important to live life in balance.

I don't know why seeing the ASPCA website made me think of that.

Animals give great joy, teach youngsters responsibility and a dog can be a great helper and protector.  I am thankful for the blessings that animals bring.

I think that how you treat animals is a direct reflection on the kind of person that you are, in the same way that people should respect the help at a restaurant.

Having said that Sir Smyler, I hope you signed the pledge!

I agree, all things in balance. By doing things like this, the ASPCA will draw attention to a dirty secret like dog fighting and mistreating animals, and hopefully  begin the teaching at a young age that animals have feelings too.  Righting so much of what is wrong now- a-days starts with changing how our kids view things like this. Don't you agree?
I'm not a fanatic, I eat an occasional steak (even though I love cows) and I probably eat more than my share of piggies  Grin. I am not in favor of killing animals for their fur, dog fighting or ANY animal fighting (unless the animal signs a release stating  he understands what he's getting into, in front of his attorney).
I think abusing, starving ,confining,  or neglecting health care of a pet is wrong.

As far as fur..........all I can say is it looks much better on the animal than it does on a person. I understand in extremely cold  climates it may be necessary to wear fur. I'll make a concession on  that. Were you aware, some of the faux fur trim on kids and adults jackets , gloves and hats is really DOG fur?  To make it even more deplorable, some of these animals are skinned ALIVE. Think about that for a second....how horribly that must hurt.

You don't have to take the pledge. You don't have to post an opinion. Just please, take care of the animals God has blessed you with and make sure  the children understand  what is right and what is wrong when it comes to animals and earth in general.
OK, I've  had my mad rant for the day. Excuse me while I go have a little cry just thinking about it.

I got 4 kitties

Baby
Mocha
Taygun
Tootsie

Baby is the ruler of the house, even though she is the smallest.
Mocha is a long hair 'ragdoll' cat with siamese colorings and blue eyes. She is the queen
Taygun is the big boy. All black with large nasty fangs! Quite the hunter but the biggest kittycats cat you ever seen.
Tootsie is a gray marble pattern cat. Prolly about a year old and still trying to find her place in the brood. Very pretty cat though.

And Ros,
I am with you on the cruelity thing, but you do know that I am a hunter, right? I hunt deer, pheasant, turkey, wild boar, etc. I don't hunt just for sport though. If I kill it, I eat it! (Well, cept for the occasional coon or possum that takes up residence in the garage attic. Shocked  )

Hope ya still like me! Undecided

Yep, I know ya are.  I understand about keeping herds in check because of interbreeding and food supply. Just don't ask me to kill anything OR look at it in the bed of your truck while you flex your testosterone, lol.
Unless you want to see me break down. I prefer to see my deer jumping over fences ,not laid out on the barbie!
Killing for food is one thing, killing to hang some gross beheadded creature on the wall isn't sport............unless the bear is dressed in camo and has had some training on the gun range too.

Support the right to arm bears.

I signed.

I lost my kitty - Fuzzy Butt, but as soon as we get settled in a bigger house Indy and I intend to get another cat.  I've had cats all my life and a few dogs, a salamander, frogs, a toad once, chickens, rabbits, and various and sundry animals that my dad brought home:  baby racoon, two flying squirrels and a baby rabbit.  He would find them when he was clearing land to drill a well.  Usually either they got hurt, or the mother ran or or was killed.  He would bring them home and we would nurse them back to health.  Now my Mom would rescue the silly birds that would fly into our huge picture window.  There always seemed to be some wounded creature at our house, and I think that there is a network among the animals that lets homeless creatures know who will take them in.

One time we had 14 cats, 7 rabbits, a mess of chickens, 1 salamander, 1 toad, 2 dogs, several fish and a racoon living at our house!

I signed.

I currently have 3 cats, 1 dog and 1 horse and can't picture my life without them. They are spoiled like crazy and I wouldn't have it any other way. And I am a sucker for stray or lost animals. That is how I got 2 of my cats. Mama cat showed up one day on my front door. She wouldn't allow me to catch her so I just kept food and water out for her for probably 3 or 4 months. She then ended up having kittens. My neighbor took all but one and the mama cat. She finally allowed me to catch her and I have had her and her kitten ever since. Also was the only one in my neighborhood who was able to catch a stray dog that had some how gotton himself across the major highway without getting hit. Would have kept him but his worried owner came for him later that night.

« Reply #13 on: March 08, 2008, 06:24:29 AM »

im signed too!

Weve only got one pet. Our little, buddy , our Rat Terrier Skip. Smiley
He's 8yrs. old and weve had him since he was 6 weeks old.

I also used to hunt before my legs got so bad  and Im right in line with Skools views on that also. We ate what I got..
I also grew up on a beef and hog farm and we used to do our own slaughtering. Having said that...we did kill as humanely as possible.

It would be fair to say that none of us enjoyed doing that ...it was just a part of the process that had to be done.
We just got it over with as quickly and humanely as possible.

I cant stand anyone that abuses animals. Angry Angry Angry
