No Splitscreen option? No says NASCAR: Fans hoping that NASCAR’s move to ABC/ESPN next year would improve their viewing experience may be in for a rude awakening. Although the networks employ a “Side-By-Side” split-screen feature for its Indy Racing League coverage that allows viewers to continue watching the action while commercials play, NASCAR has forbidden ABC/ESPN or any of its other TV partners from marketing that kind of advertising. “We’ve looked at a lot of options to enhance the fan/viewer experience but feel that a split-screen presentation of ads and racing serves neither the fan nor advertiser,” says Ramsey Poston, NASCAR’s managing director of corporate communications. “Our TV partners do an excellent job of immediately returning to significant track action when it happens during commercials. With replays and other technology, the networks make sure NASCAR fans get the best, most comprehensive race coverage anywhere.” But according to George McNeilly, senior director of communications for ESPN/ABC Sports, the networks would be interested in exploring the split-screen option. “We are engaging focus groups and other research in an effort to quantify the positive feedback we’ve received from people who’ve enjoyed the viewing experience,” McNeilly says.

huh??  what??  neither the fan nor the advertiser?  bull!  I can understand about saying it doesn't necessarily serve the advertiser because it doesn't get their product on the screen with no distractions, but it definitely serves the fans.  We as fans have complained for a while about commercials and the poor tv coverage missing the action on the track or the restarts.  The side by side picture would be perfect for fans. Reading statements like that one makes me think NASCAR has become the Emperor wearing invisible clothing but thinking he is wearing a glorious suit.  What balderdash!  I wish I hadn't purchased tickets for this weekends race now.  It feels very manipulative of them.  Wow, they really do feel like we are sheep.

Think about it.  If the advertisers knew the ground rules ahead of time, they could film their ads so that the main action would not be blocked by the second screen.  Nascar fans are the most faithful purchasers of advertiser products of any group in fandom.  I have not bought a Miller light since last fall.  I buy the name brands at the store, instead of generics, because I know it supports the company that supports my sport.  I remember shopping at K-Mart, even though it was a bit low brow, just because of their support.  I don't think I have been in one more than 5 times since they pulled out of Cup sponsorship.

This big corporate thinking has got to be nipped in the bud.  Most of the fans of NASCAR are newbies.  They may find that their old faithful isn't so faithful if they think so little of us.

The one here by smyler,.. and the one at the top just points out WHY we all need to go to the thread and WRITE NBC and complain.. and CC copies to the television sponsors.
Go to this FS thread... Link below:  I don't usually complain about TV Coverage

Poor poor fans...  You think you know what you like...  You think you know what you want...

Haven't you realize it yet?

NA$CAR will give you what THEY think is best for you.  You will have no independent thought...  No free will...  No choice but to take what NA$CAR gives you and say "Thank you Sir, may I have another?"

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY . . .

When I go to casinos, the most ridiculous sign I see is the one that says:
"If you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER."

So, I call them and say,
"I have an ace and a six. The dealer has a seven. What do I do?"

I don't like the split screen, the commercials on the right are too distracting.

We have commercials for one BIG reason. Not to buy stuff, but it is a time to go to the bathroom. I feel much better when I miss commercials than the racing action.

Yo're funny Cheesy Keep thinking like that, bet it keeps you calm. I get so mad sometimes I know my blood pressure elevates.  Wonder if the sponsers will ever figure it out that if we would get split screen we might just watch what they are sellin instead of going to the bathroom or finding another cold one.
