Yeah,...
I was there... Now thats a place that looks NOTHING like it does on TV...
....................................... ....................................... ......................................

HuH?!  Shocked

Cheers was on TV?

Imagine that.

I just went there to get a "Cheers" glass for my dispatcher -- to earn brownie points.

Worked too! Big time. Got quite a few gravy runs after that.

Cheers on TV?
I musta missed that. Wink Cheesy

No kiddin'? Fairbury? On 136 and 15? My "short cut" (around the scales) to Oklahoma. 15 south to Wichita, Kansas -- then 81 south to 177 in Oklahoma to
I-35 south. The "scenic" route for sure! Enjoyed every minute off the big slab too.

Visited Lincoln many times -- picked-up at what used to be Cushman -- to be delivered to parts unknown. Parked in their drop lot or spent the night at the Texaco truck stop. I like Lincoln.

Brought the first load of gaming devices (slot machines) to the dog track in Council Bluffs too. Good story to go with that delivery, but that's another thread. (by request only)

And a Badger too?
My oh my.
If I had a buck for every time I've been in Green Bay, I could retire.

And, you're correct about some Chicago drivers. Have you ever been to Boston or the Big Apple?? Even worse.
But I did get to visit "Cheers".

Yeppers!   Fairbury, NE is my old stomping grounds!  I used to be a Fairbury Jeff.  Fairbury Jeffs is the name of the high school teams. Fairbury is the county seat of Jefferson County and way back when, some sports announcer called them the Fairbury Jeffs, and it became the offical name! Even though I am FS's offical cerebral cardophagus, that is no bull!

I come from the center of the NASCAR universe...New York City  Tongue

Well, technically...just outside the city in Jersey (Jersey City)...I saw a NASCAR fan at Shea Stadium in NYC last night wearing a Jeff Gordon T Shirt...that's seriously the first fan I've seen in any of the five boroughs of New York City since the NASCAR banquet this past December.   Smiley

LOL  yeah, I hear ya on that one!  I'm from Bergen county NJ...about 15 mins north of Jersey City and it's TOUGH to find fellow race fans around here!!!  They just give me a hard time about watching cars going in circles making all left turns    Tongue

Long Island here... We USED to have some NASCAR out here...but that was long long ago... In fact, Bobby Allison won his first NASCAR race out here at Islip... (see my other post on nascar racing in NY area)... Unfortunately, land values out here in SUffolk have flown through the roof... so all the tracks, including the fabled Bridgehampton Circuit, are just a dream..and they are either condos or shopping malls....

Gets me depressed to even THINK about it sometimes!! Cry

hhuummm
and to THINK the people from NYC (and the area) would have the GALL to show up and PROTEST A new track in the NYC area,.... WHy they should be happy to foot the bill to put a track on a trash dump, clean up the waste, make it suitable for people to camp there, etc etc.... only cost MILLIONS<.. and Nascar reaps the benefits, and the local taxpayers foot the bills,...
Whats NOT to love...
That Brian France,.. he's a slick one I tell ya....  See these folks LIVE In the area,... but Brian KNOWS better than they that there are MILLIONS of folks that live in that area just chomping at the bit wanting to spend their hard earned green-backs at a new track in the area.
How you recon' Brian got so smart??

NA$CAR has been trying to get a track built up here in the Pacific northwest for a few years but they always want the majority of it paid by the tax payers. problem is the tax payers all ready are paying for Safeco field [baseball] and Quest field [football] So unless Na$car coughs up some bucks I don't think you will see a new track built in the near future

yeah,.. your 100% right Smoken...
Between NY and the NW... Brian thinks poeple are asleep or just plain stupid
He wants THEM to pay for a track that will (for the most part) be used only twice a year..  OOPS make that ONCE
THEY will pay for it for MANY years to come in added taxes, bond referendums, etc... so while the tax payers foot the bills,...
Nascar reaps all the profits.

Born and raised in Durham, NC, moved to to Hillsboro (Hillsborough) NC in 1965 and now live in a small comminity about 3 miles west of Hillsboro.  Hillsboro had one of the orginal tracks on the NASCAR schedule in 1949.  It was a 9 tenths dirt track, it was called the old Hillsboro Speedway and Occoneechee Speedway.  The last race held there was in 1966, the last race I attended there was in 1964, which was won by David Pearson in the # 6 Cotton Owens Dodge.
Glad to be here folks, and never forget, our sport started from humble beginnings and got to where it is today with lots of hard work.  There's been lots of failures along the way and NASCAR has not always be on top among the racing organizations.
