Shane Hammond of Halifax Ma. was killed on lap 25 of a Midget Race at the Thompson Speedway in Thompson, CT.

It was during lap 25 of the 2008 Ice Breaker event.

It was a Northeast Midget Association lower-level series race which was sanctioned by Nascar. Shane hit the wheel of another car and flipped out of the speedway and struck a billboard. The other car was being driven by Chris Leonah of Pelham, NH. Not sure if I have his name spelled correctly as details are sketchy at this time.

Last year John Blewalt was killed at Thompson when he collided at the end of a race on the Whelan Modified Tour. He collided with another car driven by his brother.

May he rest in peace !!!!

Our prayers to his family....For more info check out the Thompson Speedway Site or the Hartford Ct Newspaper. Not sure of the address for this site. Maybe Speed Channel will have more info this evening
