Hey everyone...I just wanted to share with you that I recommend that you NEVER purchase a Gateway computer.  More details to come if you're interested.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY . . .

When I go to casinos, the most ridiculous sign I see is the one that says:
"If you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER."

So, I call them and say,
"I have an ace and a six. The dealer has a seven. What do I do?"

We have a Dell laptop and haven't had a single problem with it....Gateway on the other hand has been nothing but problems since day 1.  TF20 have you been having troubles with your gateway?

None at all. This is my 2nd gateway. Never had any problems with my 1st as well. It just got a little outdated.

You're lucky then....ours has been a piece of crap since day 1.  In fact right now it's on its way back to gateway for the 2nd time in less than 3 weeks.

GG, gotta say we started out with a Gateway (back in 98) too and never had any trouble to speak of except keyboards, which they replaced free of charge. It just got old and we wanted something a tad faster and more memory so we got a Compaq now  (2004)which we just love too.

Our son is still using the old Gateway yet and it works great.

Well here's our story...at least what I can remember because we've had ongoing problems.  We got the computer in Sept 03 and within a month or so (I think) it started randomly restarting for no reason.  We'd spend time on with their support trying to figure it out.  There was no rhyme or reason.  It would sometimes just happen if we weren't doing anything at all and the computer was just sitting on the Windows XP login page.  We spent FOREVER on their support chat page or on the phone (probably more than 24 hours in the last 2 1/2 almost 3 years) with them for those reasons or because our hard drive went out.  We're on our 5th hard drive from them.  We'd just have trouble with it not wanting to boot up...even in safe mode.  Yes we have antivirus software and other protections on it.  I know it wasn't that.  We're on our 3rd monitor since we got it.  Our CD/DVD writer won't write anymore.  And we FINALLY got them to set it up for being sent in a couple weeks ago, and when we got it back I was unable to get ANY video at all.  Come to find out after yet another hour on the phone with support our motherboard imust be bad.  The tech on the phone had me take the memory out of it and then turn it on.  If the motherboard were working properly, it would have beeped because there was no memory attached...and it didn't.  So now it's on its way back to them AGAIN.  I have this feeling we're going to get it back and it's still going to crash.  Add to that the fact that they put an underpowered power supply in for the video card that we got standard with the computer and it's more frustrating.  On top of that we had our keyboard go out and they refused to replace it.  This is all happening while we still have over a year left on our extended warranty.  The first time we had to ship it in for service we had to pay instead of them issuing a call tag like they did this time around...go figure.  Ah ok....I feel a little better lol.

Yup...sounds about par for the course....  As a tech, I was on the wrong end of many of these isuues over the years....

That's what happens (underpowered power supply) when a company tries to cut corners to maximize their profit...Gateway's been gettin their butts kicked by dell and HP in the marketplace these last few years... Guess this is how they reduce costs!!!

Our Gateway does that when it is above 80 degrees in the house.  If it is cooler than that, it is fine.  Hopefully, in the Spring, I can get a new Dell.  I won't buy another Gateway.
