# Gibbs tested own engines in All-Star race: Joe Gibbs Racing used its engines in the all-star race as opposed to the engines it receives from Toyota Racing Development. The team plans to go back to TRD motors for the Coca-Cola 600. Since the all-star race is a non-points race, it provides teams a chance to test equipment without fear that a failure will hurt them in the points.(Roanoke Times), #20-Stewart had to change engines before the race, #11-Hamlin and #18-Busch both lost engines during the All-Star race, all three had rocker-arm problems.(5-19-2008)

Is it right for a team to "experiment" with engines just because they're not racing a points race?  Or should they save they're experimenting for testing sessions?

Sure it is...
something like tha race Saturday night is closest to a 'real race' experience...
testing is just that... run a few laps,.. come in make adjustments to car,.. come in make more adjustments to car...
And in testing you are worried about setting up the car for an upcoming race... lose an engine then,.. spend 2 hours or so changing it, and you are behind the other teams and miss test time... making you behind when you go to race that track

Hey,.. if you are willing to use a million dollar race as a test session... thats each owners option.
The Championship is worth WAY more than that

I have a hard time believing JGR didn't care about the race. They knew after Stewart's engine swap there were problems. Frankly, I hope they don't get those motors able to last 500 or 600 miles. Them things were fast !!!

I had a feeling they were trying something new on Saturday. I sure hope Mark fixes the problem cause gosh those engines were making some power. Even when Kyle's engine was going he was still holding his own.
