hhuummmm
Cot.. yeah I can agree with that... safer barrier I can agree with that also... throw in HANS devide and improved drivers seats...
Age,.. I'm not so sure that age had anything to do with it......

Go find a trampoline and jump on it like you're 20 years old.

The pain you'll feel is your internal organs slamming into stuff they're not supposed to. Funny, when we were younger, it didn't hurt.

I agree with that.  Used to ride rollercoasters when I was young, now if I do, I have to run the the Chiropractor...

age, and conditioning, are certainly factors to be taken into consideration

Funny...
By that reasoning... the wreck that killed Dale Sr.... Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin should have walked away from.
Only difference THEIR was age..??
Same cars,.. about same speed (Adam and Kenys could of even been slower),.. same angle of impact... hhuumm
Have to explain that logic to me..

I think we know what killed Sr., Adam, and Kenny. HANS device probably would have saved them (along with a safer barrier).

I'm talking specifically about McDowell's impact. It was amazing he walked away from that wreck. All I'm saying is an older person (someone my age) would have been seriously hurt (internal injuries) from the impact.

 Now, go find that trampoline.

Speak for yourself, amigo.

I did that when I was "younger" and I went from 5' 13" to just under 5' 8" -----
'cause I landed on my dad-burned feet.
And that was back in the day --- before touch-tone phones and the 911 operator.

Hello?
What is the nature of your emergency?

I think we know what killed Sr., Adam, and Kenny. HANS device probably would have saved them (along with a safer barrier).

Now you are changing the variables.... YOU stated an OLDer driver would get hurt under the SAME situations a younger WOULD NOT.  The situations I referenced were all practically identical.  Wide range in ages,.. all had the same outcome.  SO I can't see where your theory holds any water

I'm talking specifically about McDowell's impact. It was amazing he walked away from that wreck. All I'm saying is an older person (someone my age) would have been seriously hurt (internal injuries) from the impact.

Now if you want to talk about McDowell's impact... Lets compare his and Jeff Gordons.  Gordons impact was every bit as hard as McDowells (remember Gordon did NOT hit a safer barrier.. and he is a LOT older than McDowell.  Both drivers had no injuries.
OH.. and just for the record... I been going to CUP and NNS races for almost 40 races.... I'd have to sit and think about it a long LONG time before I could come up with someone that had an "internal injury".  Broken bone,.. sure.  But some kinda of body organ injured, (other than brain injury)..... hardly ever happens.

 Now, go find that trampoline.
As far as me and trampolines.... I'm all for them.  The gal I see has two teenagers... AND a trampoline.  I get out on jump on it with them all the time.  I'm almost 47 and I have no ill effects.  SO whats the big deal with that..??

Chris. Hmmm, didn't realize I changed ANY variables. The post regarding McDowell's qualifying wreck in a COT was MY opinion. Seems you're being argumentative over the issue of age.

I'm sure your vast knowledge of mechanisms of injury is far superior to someone such as myself, with only 12 years experience in the field. Oh, that was just for the record.

Glad to hear you've been going to "races for almost 40 races".

Yes and MY statement was saying that AGE don't have anything to do with it (that WAS your contention)...  You did state AGE was a factor.  Thats where the issue came up to start with.
Like I said Gordons crash was just as HARD as McDowells and neither got injured.  If Your argument held ANY validity AT ALL... Gordon SHOULD of received SOME injuries of some kind.

oh boy.. 12 years.  SO.. How many of working with CUP drivers.  Lets get into something relevent.  People that wreck in a car... no protective devices, no helments, some with no seats belts, some with no air bags.... you are trying to compare what you know to CUP racing, and that is like comparing apples and oranges.  You can be an EMT, trama surgeon or any kind of medical professional... but it relates in no way to how a CUP car crashes, and how the driver is effected with all the safety devices ALL of them wear (not to mention the new car and SAFER barrier)

Glad to hear you've been going to "races for almost 40 races".
Being to 40 years of races WAS NOT the point... If you can figure would the facts... The point was drivers RARELY EVER get internal injuries.  (Something you had pointed out older drivers get)  I was simply stating in nearly 40 years of attending races I can't recall a driver that got any internal organ injuries.  Broken bones... yeah... Internal injuries... NOPE, not that I recall.  Sure maybe one I have forgotten... But By and large it just don't happen  NO MATTER the age.  Especially in the huge proportion you are seeming to imply
