Poll
Question: This is the final off-week before the end of the season.  Should NASCAR change the schedule for 2007 and beyond to push the next six races back so there's an off-week before the chase starts instead, or is keeping dates the same at many tracks more import  (Voting closed: August 06, 2006, 08:59:03 PM)

I'm flexable.

Which ever works best for the teams and drivers.
Fine with me.

well I look at it this way...
We got 16 weeks in a row to race now.  Starting this week right through to the end of the season.
IF we move the off weekend to the week before the chase, you would still have 15 straight weeks of racing from Memorial weekend (the 600) up until the race after Richmond.  SO "streak wise" it about the same number of weeks in a row.

THAT being the case,... I'd say the teams would RATHER have that week off to get geared up for the final 10 race chase. IN fact it seems I heard some teams (when interviewed over the last couple years) say something to that effect.

Well, pushing the Glen back a week will mean it would conflict with the one other thing I actually plan to go to every year. So I think it might be good for the sport to move it - but I certainly hope they don't for my own completely selfish reasons.

I would think that the teams would like to have the off week right before the chase in order to focus on the final ten races.  It would make more sense to take the off week then vs. now...

I really think the teams should have a week off before the chase.

Leave it alone.  Doesn't matter what's done, people (fans) are going to complain about it.  Human nature kicks in I guess Grin

That is so true...Of course, with half the Cup Drivers driving Busch this year...most of them would probably just race anyways.

I have always thought there should be a week off before the Chase...besides giving the teams that week to catch their breaths after the pressure of Richmond, it also allows that extra week where, if a race had to be postponed because of weather or other events (like Loudon in 2001), it gives NASCAR the ability to use that week as a make-up week.

I know they've been lucky since the inception of the Chase, and had no weather problems, but they really don't have a back-up plan - Richmond is marketed, and tickets sold as the the make or break race. So, what would NASCAR do?  25 + 11? 26 + 10 but NH, instead of being the first race is now the cut-off?

It would almost be worth having it happen, just to see the scrambling they would do.  Grin

Yeah,...
CF,.. thats a good point  as much as I have been around racing,... thats a thought that I don't think has ever entered my mind.
If a race (lets just say Richmond, or better yet a long trip across the country at Fontana CA.)... how about it gets rained out ENTIRELY...
Rain sets in and rains for 3 days straight. WE KNOW it's possible,.. heck rained for a couple weeks this spring on the west coast,.. and it's hurricane season for the next couple months on the east coast... SO yeah... it IS possible.

SO we get a race ENTIRELY rained out,.. when do you run it,.. well there is NO time.
Like CF said,... the FIRST race in the chase,.. now becomes the LAST race (and the 'cut off'.. or race #26).  Heck maybe thats better.
WOULDN'T it be interesting if the ROAD COURSE race got rained out and a ROAD COURSE RACE became part of the final 10 race chase...  hhuummm
Since there is NO time to fit ANY race in,.. it would have to be moved to race #36,.. the final race of the season... hhuummm interesting

Sure would throw a monkey wrench in all those plans for the BGN and CUP Banquet... or have to race on THANKSGIVING WEEKEND...
If they DO NOT race on Thanksgiving weekend... that means they will have to race the NEXT weekend which will be the FIRST weekend of December.. which is the SAME weekend they have ALREADY scheduled the CUP banquet in NY.
GEE<.. don't a LOT of the CUP guys seem to race in the BGN series,..
Everywhere you turn seems it causes problems...

Now that I think of it,... I'd LOVE to see a race get rained out in the next 6 weeks....
