The deal is done! Earlier today, a source close to the situation told Captain Thunder that Chevrolet has agreed to terms with Joe Gibbs Racing to buy Tony Stewart out of his contract with the Toyota Sprint Cup racing team. Stewart will indeed be making the move to Haas CNC racing, a rumor that has been circulating for months.
Sources also told Captain Thunder that Stewart’s new sponsor will be Office Depot and terms have been finalized regarding the impending sponsorship. In addition, Stewart will be joined by Penske Racing driver Ryan Newman. Sources also told Captain Thunder that Newman would be sponsored by Burger King. No word yet on what car numbers the drivers will run. An announcement could come as early as next week at the Daytona International Speedway. – John ‘Captain Thunder’ Nevins

 Silly Season has officially begun.

Really... must be super secret yet...  Just watch 1 1/2 hours of CUP practice and not a word was said about it (not even that it was 'rumored)
THEY DID say that Biffle re-signed with RFR,..
and that Mears is OUT at HMS... no word on a replacement

Also heard that Bowyer has re-signed with RCR

Hard to figure if it was in any way shape or form 'official' they would not cover a "smoke" story when they was covering everything else.
hhuumm
Jayski still has it's "Possible" and that Truex could go with him... UPS and Bass Pro as Sponsor...

If you are correct,.. you 'scooped' everyone....

Till I hear Tony Stewart himself say what he is doing, I wont believe a damn thing anyone else is saying.  Nothing is a done deal till Smoke says it is.

I know what you are saying...
There were SO many reports of Labonte going to RCR.. all of them saying basically it was a done deal.
When it was all said and done, he's stayed with Petty

Yeah, it's not official yet, but the rumors are gaining momentum, and I've been a fan of NASCAR long enough to know when that happens, generally more and more of the rumors are true....not always, of course, but generally. I'm betting we see Tony and either Newman or Truex at Haas next year, with Tony part owner, back in his beloved Chevies. We'll see.  Smiley

Well Tony finally talked a little more about his future today and as it is now there is no done deal since Tony doesn't know where he is driving yet. And by the sounds of it if Tony can get his way it may be the 5 car.

Well, he'd be dumb to turn down the 5 car if it were offered...but if he's set on ownership, too, Haas will be the better deal. But then he has to work at helping BUILD that team to a competitive team...they've shown SPARKS of brilliance (the 70 has been fast a couple of times this season) but....

Tony could possibly drive the 5 car and still own Haas with the help from Rick.

If Stewart Goes to Haas.... Newman Leaves Penske... and RCR starts up a 4th team...
MAN there is gonna be a LOT of shuffling the rest of the season with drivers trying tio improve their lot in the racing world.
10 or 15 guys could move around..??

I suppose you KNOW.. If Stewart goes to "Haas"... he'll ACTUALLY be going to HMS>
Hendrick and Haas are good friends, and they would just use Stewarts 'name' as a way to have all those teams 'really' being under the Hendrick umbrella.
It would be an 8 car team...  Kinda like RFR and Yates are working together to have a 7 car team now...

I'm sure GM would like to see the Stewart/Haas deal happen.  From their end, it would help them even more than Smoke to the #5... though they'd be happy to get him back in the fold either way.
