#01 car soon to be 'sidelined'? other DEI stuff: ....however Regan Smith, the promising rookie who may not have any sponsorship next season at DEI, will apparently soon be sidelined; Mark Martin is leaving DEI at the end of the season to join Rick Hendrick; Martin Truex Jr. is trying to leave DEI at the end of the year, though that legal issue is still up in the air; and Paul Menard’s wealthy father John is reported talking with Ford’s Jack Roush apparently about moving his financial NASCAR stake there, presumably with Paul Menard driving a Roush-Yates Ford in 2009. That only leaves DEI with newcomer Aric Almirola

Well looks like maybe we'll soon be down to only 42 teams and Morgan Shepherd, or someone like that can come back and be a 'start and park' team.
They can make more money doing that than they can 'racing'.
CUP racing has taken a HUGE ste backwards from the 50+ full time teams they started with the beginning of the season.

Hell I hope your wrong Chris ! I would hate to See Regan left out of the picture ..again ! It was bad enough when Ginn folded and fortunate when Martin helped  him land on his feet with Dei .  I hope if there is any truth to the Haas / Smoke Rumor that Tony picks up a Driver like Regan Smith to start up a Team he has a lot of potential if given some time .  Wink

Seems every time there's something related to DEI, I'm in need of a:

 "That's a damn shame" thingy.

DEI is going to be in big trouble if Truex leaves.

Regan Smith has to have the worst luck with ownership of any driver out there. He's definitely a better driver than the No. 01 car is letting him show. I'd like to see him get a ride in a good Nationwide Series car full-time, finally get to race for points and a title and be ready for a true Cup run in 2 or 3 years. The last thing he needs to do is hop into a backmarker Cup ride should the No. 01 fold, or we'll never hear his name again.

Yep , my point exactly ! There have been numerous qualities drivers that have just been in the wrong equipment at the wrong time !  Some got a second chance some just faded away to another Series or lower Division !

True 'dat, every time Regan Smith seems to catch a good break, it deteriorates into an unstable situation.  He seems to be doing a decent job under the circumstances, it would be nice to see him turn it around even if it means being out of Cup for a season or two.

With the current economy , it may take a time out to get him back with a Competitive Team Unfortunately !  Wink

It could be tough for him to even find a good Nationwide ride.  Lots of seats taken up by "whackers" most weeks, and a lot of the prime seats with Cup-affilated teams are already committed to development drivers.  There should be part-time openings available, but he could still use the extra seat time if he could get full time.  Trucks might be an option, too, if it were a really competitive team.

Colin Braun will be in the Cup Series next year over Regan unfortunately.  He will be in a RYR car.
