Will The Broadcasts Ever Improve?

TNT did their wide-open coverage at Daytona, and most people seemed to think it was much better. I know they must have had to keep it limited to one race, but last night in Chicago it was the same old.
There is always something that makes me go nuts with the broadcasts. How about every time we came back from a commercial we got the promo for the new Will Ferrell show? And the green flag break with 16 laps to go?
But the best was missing about five laps of green flag racing to watch Larry McReynolds do the saw someone in half magic trick. I couldn't believe that. Even my wife was shaking her head and she doesn't give a damn about NASCAR. Someone at TNT had to say, "Yes, the people who tuned in to see the race will love this!"
I keep trying to motivate NASCAR to do something about the terrible broadcasts in my columns but it just doesn't seem to be working.
OK, done my b*** session.

Lemmie ask y'all this -------------
Does it bother y'all to hear an announcer say
"The second place WINNER"?
I mean, how many "winners" are there in a race?
I always thought it was only one.
Are they trying to be politically correct and not hurt anyone's feelings?

Was that a Bill Weber-ism?
The guys in the booth generally don't bother me that much, but I still don't understand why Allen Bestwick was replaced by Weber. Weber's strength is finding unusual stats; how that makes him the play-by-play guy is a stretch. Bestwick was infinitely better at it.

I've heard several refer to second place that way --- but I don't think it's a common mistake in professional sports.
Which leads me to think it's a politically correct -- (try to) offend no one -- thang.

Man-0-Man!
I couldn't agree more.
RPM tonight with Allen was great!
Allen in the booth was a treat.
Allen in the pits was/is, ........ well, ....... the pits.
I remember how, at first, Allen was kind of an up-tight, stuffed shirt.
But Mikey seems to have cured him of that.
And it seems like since Allen broke his leg playing ice hockey
the head talking heads were offended and he was demoted.
Know what
I
think?
I think Allen oughta check them all with his hockey stick.
UNLESS, there was a clause in his contract about NOT engaging in dangerous acts which
might result in injury and cause him to be unable to git 'er done for NASCAR.
Maybe Allen screwed up when he played hockey?
Maybe they could have canned him for that, but gave him a break? (no pun intended)

I wore mine out during the Fox broadcasts Amy.
I forgot about the hockey thing...must have been a clause in his contract. I'm not sure how hurting the broadcast fixes the problem though, unless Bestwick is that proverbially "difficult" type...

As much as I like to gripe about the coverage (they missed the first restart after the competition caution...uggghhh!!!), I try to remind myself that we're lucky to get to watch races on tv. There was a time when you were lucky to even get an update on the night's sport report. Thankfully I have the privilege of being able to watch the races regardless of how crappy the coverage seems. That said, I still find myself annoyed by tv coverage in general. I really enjoyed the wide open coverage at Daytona last week, but something has to be done about repeating the same promos over and over and over again. I wish we could have PIP for every race

As a matter of fact, ....... the last person I heard say
"The second place WINNER" ---- was a female reporter in the pits.
I think NASCAR is tryin' too hard to invent the female reporter for "diversity".
What I appreciate is a knowledgeable reporter. Doesn't matter to me what gender.
Otherwise, to me, they're just talking heads with a list of popular, predictable, politically correct,
non-intrusive, and sometimes obvious to the point of frustration, questions to ask.
If y'all let yourselves be frustated.
I've come to expect it, to a point.
What I like, is when a driver like Tony Stewart comes up with a pithy reply to their questons,
and the interviewer is speechless.

Has anyone ever noticed that it doesn't make any difference what network or who's doing the broadcasting, folks are gonna bitch about it.

I've noticed that it doesn't matter what network is covering the race, or even what sport I'm watching (like the Phillies when they're on Fox), there's something about every broadcast that annoys me...

Soon, every driver will be awarded a "participants" ribbon in Victory Lane.
Note to TNT: If you're gonna let Larry Mac do magic tricks, make his ass disappear.
