Has he?  He's proved he's got the best front end geometry and the best engines.  Best driver?  Can he win when he doesn't have the best cart in the field?

ya know... how do we KNOW he had the best car in the field...
maybe he had the 5th or 6th best car in the field,... and just out drove everyone else so well it "looked" like he had the best car in the field.
I just asking... we are just guessing.  Obviously at Atlanta EVERYONE had a bad car because of the hard tires.  He was just the best DRIVER that day

The 99 was the best car at atlanta, he blew up.  Kyle won.

The 99 was the best car at Dover.  Kyle's team was better in the pits, Kyle was better getting into the pits, and was able to hold on to the lead through traffic.  Kyle won.

The 99 and the 48 were better at Chicago.  The 99 lost the splitter, Kyle outdrove JJ in the last 2 laps.  Kyle won.

That's 3 times this season he's won without being the "best" car.

If the Chase started today, Kyle would only have a 50 point lead over Jimmie, Carl and Kasey Kahne...
I'm thinking that JJ and Carl will both have a good shot at the Championship over Kyle.  I'm hoping Kyle's luck will run out...one blow engine and that 50 point lead will go up in smoke.

sorry...is there a different phrase you would like me to use  Wink

hopefully, when the Chase does start, Kyle will have less than a 50 point lead, because Carl will have won a couple more races

Kyle didn't actually outdrive the 99 at Atlanta...he got lucky.

Dover, maybe...though if he was better in traffic, that's at least partly a good car.

At Chicago, well, I'd respect him if he hadn't hit Jimmie to get by him.  Jimmie wouldn't have driven him that way.  But that said, the 18 WAS the best car on short runs, which the green-white-checkers created.  The 48 was better on long runs, after the tires heated up.

He's good, but there are other drivers in the series who are at least as good and some who are better.

Oh goodness gracioius.  Hell yes Jimmie would have done the same thing.   St. Jimmie would have tried to do the exact same thing on the restart.   It was less of a hit than a bump draft.   But St. Jimmie can do no wrong   Roll Eyes

Your criteria was can he win when he wasn't the best car in the field.  I showed 3 examples of races where the 18 was not the best car, and Kyle still won.   You can even make the case that he wasn't the best car at Dega or Daytona as well.
