WTF was Tony Jr thinking?
«

You know I just got home from a weekend celebrating my 20th anniversary with my hubby...We start to watch the race and were pretty happy for awhile and then comes along this stupid move by Tony Jr to not only screw our chances of winning the race, but to drop us 2 places in the standings. I mean was this guy a complete idiot today or what?

yeah.. I have to say.. I was curious what he was thinking also...
I got tickled and LOL when they interviewed Tony Jr and he said "well they throw a cup full of dirt on the track and NASCAR throws a yellow"
NO matter what
NASCAR
did,.. by that point Jr had already painted the team into a corner there was no way E Jr could win from.
He left Jr out
so
long,.. and his lap speeds were so slow,.. even WITHOUT a yellow,.. the cars that pitted earlier would end up in front of him ...
Just totally screwed up all the way around...
I'd like to be a fly on the wall tomorrow at the team meeting...
Glad I'm not an Earnhardt fan... I'd be upset also.

Who knows what he was thinking. I guess he wanted to make sure he was good on fuel but that shouldn't have involved staying out 5 laps more than everyone else. I'm glad he isn't Smoke's crew chief.

I don't think Tony will have a problem finding a good crew chief for next year.
On another note what was up with Jeff Gordon today? I have never seen that team look so lost on a road course before.

Yeah, not sure what he was thinking but that is why I do what I do and he does what he does. It didn't make much sense though. When he got into his pit window he should have came in. I can see what he ended up trying to do. Build as big of a lead he could and take a splash. Bit him in the arse. As for the points, they mean nothing. Junior is in the chase. He needs to add a win or 2 or he is going to start out deep in the standings.

I think thats part of what the deal may of been... do something different than what everyone else was doing, and hope for the best. Of course they HAD to figure the closer it got to the end, the more likely the yellows were to fall. A "splash and go" strategy would never work...
Thats one thing that makes playing the fantasy race game I run right now so hard. YOu got guys up in the top 5 or 6 in points that can "gamble" or use a race as a 'test session' and we as contestants have no idea that is the plan.
SUre makes you upset after you pick someone then find out "after" the fact they showed up not even racing for the win..... OR WORSE YET; have picked a guy to use,.. then at the last minute hear carl Edwards make a statement something to the effect "Crew Chie said we make some major changes and this could just be a big test session"... so I go and droip him based upon that, and he wins..... dduuhh
You just never know

I know Jr is in the chase but today just goes to show what one race can do. And I do give Tony Jr credit for where they are today, especially compared to last year. I think we all know who's gonna win the championship this year though

No matter how good Busch has been....
I think it'll come down to him, Johnson and Edwards.
Johnson's team is peaking right now and starting to get on a roll... same could be said for Edwards.
I think it'll be between those three teams.
I think you could throw 'em all in a bag and pick one out at random and thats about how close it'll be. I see virtually no difference.
Roush make good power, and Edwards is strong on the 1 1/2 mile tracks. Got three of them in the chase (Atlanta, Texas, Lowes, Kansas) Edwards is also pretty good on the flat tracks (Phoenix, Martinsville, and NH in the chase)
Johnson. He's also good on the 1 1/2 mile tracks, and flat tracks. Knause is his ace in the hole. He's a great little crew chief.
Busch,.. he's been doing tire test at Atlanta again,.. so he'll be ready for the Atlanta, Texas, Lowes races. He's good on the short tracks and a hell of a wheel man.
SO THAT brings it all down to Dega and if any of them get caught in "the big one"...
That and throw in any "mechanical failures" and any plain "racing luck"... stuff outside your control. Who has the best luck, and makes the most out of their BAD luck.
Gonna be interesting,.. BUt IMO those will be the top 3.

Hey Chris,
How do think I felt (fantasy racing-wise) when Tony Stewart climbed out of the #20 car (Daytona) and J.J. Yeley got behind the wheel?

IMHO-Junior needs to decide whether he wants to have Tony Jr. be his crew chief or whether he wants to win a championship. I honestly don't see the two happening together. DEI equipment aside, they have two wins together in 3 years. Junior is capapble of winning-he has 16 wins with Pops. Tony Jr. is a good crew chief, too. I just don't think they are going to win it all together.

I agree with you Amy. A crew chief swap wouldn't hurt anything except maybe some feelings. Although Jr. is running much better than last year, the recurrent theme of missed opportunities is still present.

Wasn't it Jr who switched crew chiefs awhile back and it didn't work out at all. So be careful what you wish for.
