Thank You for your article on Tim Richmond. I am a very loyal NASCAR fan to this day because i watched him race at Riverside in the #25 Folgers car. I could not believe a car could do that, and have not seen anything that awesome since. One of the wonderful things about "our" sport is that we feel a part of a drivers family, they are in our living room far more often than most of our "real" family. Tim was my first "driver" and his death was devestating, I'm going to always remember him by seeing right side tires off the ground at Riverside. I don't have to decide right and wrong, moral or imoral. I choose to smile thru tears still reading Part l of the article and will do the same i'm sure on part ll. Then Friday I'll watch practice, qualifying, happy hour, screeming and cheering and loving NASCAR ! Don't judge, just enjoy talent when you see it..................

It's a shame that Tim Richmond is always, inevitably remembered as "the racer who died from AIDS" with all the baggage that comes with that description. "He was Gay", "He was a drug user", etc, etc. If you've read anything about Tim there should be no question as to his sexual orientation. Bottom line is Tim just got unlucky. In much the same way he was from a previous era in NASCAR with his hard partying and from a later era with his full face helmets, motorcycles, media friends & such, he was unfortunately from exactly the wrong era when contracting AIDS meant pretty much a death sentence. Thankfully those times have changed. Perhaps the time has come when we should just look back on Tim's life & career for what it was on a whole, not just the circumstances under which he died. Cry

Tim was also a showman.
Even Dale Earnhardt said that if he (Tim) was still racing that he might not have the championships that he had.

Amazing...CMT got me started on Nascar, and now they've taught me about Tim Richmond. Never knew who he was til last night. We're going through withdraw in our house. We watched Talladega Nights yesterday and caught the CMT show by accident last night. I learned alot of things I didn't know Smiley

All I'd ever heard about Tim was pretty much bad stuff....People putting him down for the way he lived and it was always brought up "how many women he infected" like he did it on purpose.  At that time we really didn't know anything about AIDS. Hell, most of us thought you could only get it through homsexual sex. It was pretty much thought of as a "gay" disease. I remember hearing someone say, "don't bother looking for a cure and it might wipe out all the gays." Then a few years later we saw it infecting anyone, even kids , through blood transfusions. I don't think Tim did anything rock and rollers had been doing for years (and still do) I guess what made it hard to swallow was, Tim was NASCAR and not a Rolling Stone. Old southern rooted NASCAR just wasn't ready for that.  I agree, racing history might have been a little different if he'd been around a few more years. He was wicked good behind the wheel.

On that note, I can see what the attraction was, he was a darn nice loking guy and the aura of danger in what he did for a living, was just icing on the cake  Wink Definitely a WOOF WOOF!!!!

I thought it was probably the best collection of NASCAR clips I've ever seen. Lots of footage I had never seen before.

Thumbs up to NASCAR for finally allowing Richmonds proper place in NASCAR. He was one of our best.

I was also pretty touched by the Allison tribute. Especially when Bobby had his "moment". That got me.
