have qualified this morning?  I know all the intricacies of race day with the hospitality tents, drivers meetings, etc.  But this is a special race weekend.  Nascar had to do something out of the norm so why not do raceday out of the norm?  With how big this race is, qualifying was going to be huge.  Now you have all the contenders stacked with each other and if there is one bad move.....  These cars all practiced and were prepared for an impound race so it's not like they had to change alll their setups for the race.  Get in the garage at 6AM, test everything they need to test.  Get the cars through inspection and qualify around 830.  That would take us roughly to 1000-1015.  Get the cars back through tech and out to the starting grid.  We can have the drivers meeting.  Also since all track activity was gone yesterday, the teams could have made alternative plans for today with their sponsors.  Have the drivers see the most important ones they have do and not worry about the secondary.  Get them out around 1230 for driver intros, no parading them around the track and get them racing.  So again, why would this not be a real possibility?  And no, I am not saying this because Joey isn't in.  I am saying this because this race is very important to set the chase field.   Wink

Because it was unlikely that all of the TV equipment needed could have been set up in time to even tape qualifying runs, and like it or not, TV drives sports.  They'll be pushing it to be ready for prerace, because they had to take all of their stuff down before the storm.

Also, this actually works better for the Chase contenders-they'll start right around the teams they're racing and don't have to risk starting in the back with backmarkerr.

Sounds like alot of work just to get a qualifying session in. PLus if they had done that this weekend it would be expected of them to do that anytime qualifying gets rained out. NASCAR doesn't need that headache.

Ask yourself this:  Would NASCAR be unhappy to have all of the chase contenders stacked one on top of another at the start?  Wink

why would qualifying have to be aired?  Who cares about putting it on tv.  Have the session take place.  Would Nascar be happy to have them all together?  Who knows.  Would they have been happy if at the beginning on a green track, 4 contenders be taken out including Jeff Gordon, one who generates lots of dollars?  I am just saying, give me substantial reasons not to have it done.

Why should NASCAR suddenly change the way the field is set just because it's the last race before the chase.  The rule has always been that if qualifying can't be run because of weather or whatever, it's set by points.  Why should they make a special change now?  They don't do qualifying when a race is rained to a Monday...why should the race being rained to a Sunday be treated any differently?

Again, why not change this?  Why not change the way things are done?  Just because they have always done it that way?  Brian has proven he likes to change things.  The chase came, been modified, the Bud shootout, etc.

Because Brian has changed TOO much.  He's already run off plenty of fans, and it'll only get worse....
