Hey wasn't that great!
They cam back from commercial to show us a REPLAY of Johnson taking the lead, and then promptly went back to commercials after not even showing 1 (thats ONE) full lap of green.

Yeah, thats what we fans want!

I love the freakin coverage of the crash at the end!!!  What the heck happened???  Huh? "Oh there was a wreck.  OOOH they're smashed up.  Oh well.  Back to Jimmie."  Angry  I would also think that since both the wrecks at the end involved people that were in or close to being in the top 10, there would be a little more of an explaination.  I understand covering the whole victory lane thing, but maybe afterwards they could have reviewed the tape and showed us what happened???

I usually never ever complain about coverage but today it sucked big time. They showed us one little replay with the kahne crash and you couldn't even really see what happend. To me it looked like Kahne just got loose under Tony but now people are saying Carl hit Kahne. Hopefully Victory Lane will have better replays.

My personal favorite was showing te 48 team lined up ready to kiss the bricks...and promptly cutting to closing credits and a highlight reel.  Way to go.

I'm telling ya folks...
We talked about this before...
Does no good to bitch and moan here,...

We discussed having a letter writing campaign before (I even wrote in),...
If you don't write the network and voice your displeasure,....
Well I'll put it this way,... IT's kinda like voting in an election.  Those people that don't bother to go and vote,.. they got no right to complain about who gets elected.
Same thing here.

Some may say writing will do NO GOOD<.. I'll tell you this,... Writing will do a LOT better than NOT writing, and just complaining here.

I looked for an NBC email address but couldn't find one,.. If anyone can find one please post it.  I know there is one listed for TNT elsewhere on the FS Board.

You've all listed some good topics here,.. it's a GREAT start.  Not to mentions it's one of the BIGGEST race of the year, deserves GOOD coverage,.. also NO WAY they could have been "over" on their time slot because so much of the race was ran under green...
Just seemed like it was "easier" to cut it off at "that" 1/2 hour than it was to try and 'fill' another 1/2 hour.... basically doing any more was an "inconvience" to the network...
Also it's pretty possible since there was SO many commericals during the race they had ALL of them in already (why they said they would come back and show the rest of the race 'commercial free" when they did their last batch of commercials)
SO needless to say they was NOT going to go another 1/2 hour,.. and "give away" commercial air time...

Instead of having everyone else write in, you guys should have one letter and have everyone sign it, execs seem to fear big groups.

how we gonna do that,...
we all scattered all over the country...

And execs also go on the policy that "MOST people are to LAZY" to write in (like Skools articles last week said)  Theres some figure they use that for every one letter they get,.. that represents "X" percent of the viewing population....
I like separate letters myself,... (especially if they mailman has to deliver them to the office). It's nice to see a whole MOUND of letters.  You can actually see them and they have to DO something with them, instead of just hit delete.

Maybe if we all emailed,.. but ALSO printed OUT the letter and mailed it to them they would get the idea.  Whats it take,.. a few seconds, and $39 cents.?  Huh?

Maybe Skools right... we all HAVE become too lazy,... It's WAY easier to JUST complain and do nothing.

Ok so I did a little research and here is a mailing address for NBC Universal....the parent company to NBC....

NBCUNI.COM FEEDBACK
100 Universal City Plaza
Universal City, CA 91608

or I also saw a link where you can send sports questions and comments to sports@msnbc.com.

Both my sister and I were extremely disappointed with the coverage last year and we wrote in....  to no avail....  but we were only 2 people...maybe with more people we can get a better response
Worth a shot

Folks, I know in the past on different issues, there have been online petitions.
I will speak to the folks at FS.com and see if we can add a link or something. I will check on that tonight (8/7/06) during our weekly meeting.
If we can get it up and running, I also have a few contacts at other sites that I am sure will post it too, or at least a link to get there.
Stay tuned.

Stick with the letter writing and phone calls. It's much more effective than an online petition that can be signed several times by the same person or an email campaign that runs into the same problem.

But, you're also talking about a lame duck broadcaster that really isn't that interested in retaining viewers for NASCAR.  Might want to try TNT since they are staying on.

Well yeah, we touched on this in another thread.

It is ABC/ESPN, TNT and most of all, NASCROC to let them know we want split screen

You can write if you want, but I can tell you it makes no difference. I've worked for media conglomerates before and the only feedback they care about is what they get from their advertisers. They'll have a way for Joe Viewer to write back and blow off steam but as to whether they care or not -- they don't. Those email addresses are mostly for show. Occasionally someone from the conglomerate will write back but there exists very few scenarios in which someone will take feedback into a meeting and have it affect future decisions. The advertisers love frequent commercial breaks because they know they've got the viewers in a bind, and that's the opinion that will get traction at NBC. Welcome to corporate America.

As for the coverage -- by far the worst I've ever seen in NASCAR. I didn't think it was possible to out-suck Fox this year but NBC found a way to do it. In fact, for my next Scanner Static article I've got some questions from some of our members/readers here about that. (Shameless plug for you guys to write in sometime. Wink )
