Kyle Busch ain't all bad
«

After winning the Nationwide race on Saturday, Kyle Busch announced he was going to donate $100,000 to Sam Ard. Busch had just tied his record for wins in the series and he knows that Sam is having some tough times financially. Whatever you think about Busch, you have to appreciate his sense of history and his appreciation for the men who came before him.

No doubt. Wish I was a 23 year old that 100k meant 'pocket change'.
Now if he had given 100k with no mention of it to the press, and it later leaked out that he did, that might be something else. As it is, it is nothing more than a PR stunt to help his image.
Thats the way I see it anyway.

It was a very nice gesture on Kyle's part. I'm sure it means alot to Sam and his family.
However, I still think Kyle is an arrogant little punk...

What if he hadn't won and tied Ard's record? Say he finished like 25th or something, would he still have given it? And if so, why wait till now? Why not have given it before? Its not like Ard's condition is new news.
Yes, it is a nice 'gesture', but I still say it was for the wrong reasons. And I don't care if he goes around rescuing little puppies from alligators while water skiing, I still don't have to like him.

If you're going to accuse Kyle of just pulling a PR stunt...how about when
any
driver announces he's giving money to this cause or that cause? Did Jimmie Johnson just pull a PR stunt when he donated money to help those affected by wildfires in California? The list could go on really. Could it possibly be that somewhere under that arrogant exterior there really is a caring person?
Oh my....am I actually defending Kyle's decision???

I will say that I admire what Kyle did.
However, I will also say that in the same way that one bad act doesn't make someone a bad person, one good act doesn't make someone a good person either.
The difference between this and the money what JJ donated, or Kurt to VJGC, or Tony Stewart to numerous causes, is Kyle DID use the situation (victory lane) to call attention to what he did. I agree it would have said more to me if he had just done it quietly after the fact. Jimmie, Kurt, and Tony haven't done that, except in a few situations when an organization like Red Cross teamed up with their sponsor to make the donation. That is different, because it's like any other sponsor obligation. But I do agree that hed he done it quietly and the press had gotten wind of it another way, it would say more about the act to me.

If he'd done it without fanfare and the press got wind of it, y'all would have accused him of leaking it on purpose to gain attention. The kid can't win. He did it in victory lane because he just tied Sam's record. He didn't win $100,000 so he made up the difference out of his own pocket. Does he have the money to do it, hell yeah. He's one of the best drivers in the series and is paid handsomely because of that. The bottom line is most of the drivers in the series have the same financial means and a bunch of them didn't come off of their wallets to donate a red cent. Busch drives Billy Ballew's trucks for nothing to try and help a small time team make it against the big guys. I won't deny he's obnoxious and arrogant at times, but guess what, he can back it up. Nobody else has won 21 races in the three touring series. Someday he'll be just like Rusty and Darrell and the fans will start liking him. Until then, he can't win for winning.

Well, he might be...but it still was a very nice gesture. I, for one, appreciated him saying it in VL.

I'm not one for adding up race wins in other series to tout total victories. Kyle won 8 races at the Cup level. He's been at the bottom during the entire Chase. Not too special if you ask me. Whipping up on underfunded Nationwide and CTS teams doesn't impress me. Yes, he did a great thing helping out Sam and his family. Somebody please enroll Kyle in the next available "How To Be Sincere and Other Pointers That Will Help You In Life" classes.
