Oh I think a few of us Forum Members could mention a few other drivers as talented as Kyle ,  other than Smoke , but your point is well taken he does have talent indeed . Unfortunately his personality is what turns people off , but then I guess no one has to be popular to become Champion either lol !  Wink

When Kyle Busch has a championship under his belt, then I'll listen to what a great driver he is, but to even compare Kyle to Tony is really laughable! He's still as arrogant as ever which really turns people off!

The way I read 'em, Tony Stewart is a good guy who occassionally acts like an arrogant butthead.  Kyle Busch is an arrogant butthead who occassionally acts like a good guy.  There's a difference.

I was curious about Sam's condition and wanted a little more info. I thought y'all might want to read it too.
Let me say here, I don't care for Kyle, BUT he didn't HAVE to donate a dime. We all agree he's arrogant and I think  most of us agree he's an extremely talented driver too. I think maybe, by announcing his gift in VL, it may have drawn attention to the needs of Sam Ard and in return may have lead to more donations. SO, even if you think it was bad taste to announce it, it may have benfited Sam in the long run (I imagine Kyle will get points for that from "The Big Guy" no matter what his reasons for doing it were)Grin

Online Auction To Benefit The Sam Ard Fund

NASCAR Memorabilia Available In Joint Effort By The NASCAR Foundation And Motor Racing Outreach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 27, 2008) – For the next three weeks, NASCAR fans have the opportunity to do two good things at once – buy a cherished collectible, plus lend a hand to one of the sport’s pioneers.

An online auction that opened Saturday, Oct. 25, features autographed memorabilia from numerous NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers. Housed at www.NASCAR.COM/foundation, it’s a joint effort by The NASCAR Foundation and Motor Racing Outreach, with all proceeds benefitting the Sam Ard Fund.

Ard, the 1983-84 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion, is battling Alzheimer’s disease and financial woes. His wife, Jo, is in a battle of her own, against a degenerative eye disease.

Last Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, another two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series champion, Kevin Harvick (2001 and 2008), donated a van to Ard’s son, Robert, for conveyance to his father.

Items available in the online auction include autographed driver suits from Harvick, Jamie McMurray, Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer, two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, Jeff Burton, Kyle Petty, Denny Hamlin, defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr., Ryan Newman, Mark Martin and Greg Biffle.

Autographed helmets from four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., also are available, as are autographed racing gloves by two-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson.

To learn more or begin bidding, visit www.NASCAR.COM/foundation. The Sam Ard Fund auction closes Monday, Nov. 17 at noon ET. Other items will become available during the next three weeks.

October 25, 2008 - Kevin Harvick presented Robert Ard, son of two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion Sam Ard with a 2007 Chevrolet Van.  This Chevrolet van was used in the Shell fuels commercial featuring the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil driver Kevin Harvick and the “Passionate Experts” from Shell.

Ard, who won the NASCAR Nationwide Series title in 1983 and 1984, has been going through the fight of his life battling Alzheimer’s disease and facing financial woes. The 69-year-old former champion was diagnosed at the age of 66.  The doctor’s believe that that the onset of the disease was likely quickened by severe head injuries that Ard sustained in a career-ending 1984 accident.  Despite missing the final event of that season, he still won the championship by more than 400 points.  In addition, Ard’s wife Jo has been diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease that is slowly taking her vision.
