It was announced that Iowa Speedway is going to host a Truck race because Mansfield Motorsports Park is closing down. This economic downturn is going to have an interesting effect on local tracks. Some may close while others may see a boom thanks to people not wanting to spend the big bucks on NASCAR events. It is sad to see Mansfield closing though. It has provided some great Truck races over the last few years.

LOL @ TY..
You a hoot man...
I can just see me with a reports hat, a pencil behind my ear and a little notebook... little Jimmy Olsen on the scene...

Myron does make a good point about folks could return to watch short track racing..
My concern is what they might see.. If people don't have the funds for many things, are losing job, etc... IMO that'll mean fewer race cars at the track... so less action and less competition... and that'll mean the fan increase probably won't last long.
Granted families won't have "big" budgets to go on week long vacations, or to go to major league NASCAR races,.. so they'll use that money doing 'local' things... but the race track has to have racers on hand to compete to keep the fans coming.  I'm not so sure the tracks can keep the racers coming.
As long as the economy is bad,.. this'll be a tough time for everyone.... and I don't see it getting "good" until mid-2010 or later

Your right again Chris ...sad sign of the times !

As a side light , a nearby Ski Resort (Searchmount) in Northern Ontario has had better than normal snow conditions , but has failed to open this year due to lack of preseason ticket sales. The Opening is Scheduled for Jan.1st , but they could have been open since
Mid November with the total snow fall to-date , along with their artificial snow-making equipment. The majority of seasonal ticket sales is largely from tourism (US Commuters ) from Michigan , Ohio and Illinois . Sure local usage is adequate but the big bucks ,  Chalet Rentals and Lodging is what keeps these places booming ! With the Economy the way it is lol , they are going to have to sweeten the Pot for Local Clientel...just another sign of the times as you have indicated ! Many people will start spending their money much more wisely !  Wink
