And someone in the grandstands is getting a car in the face.    Will this finally wake Nascar up?

Probably not.

Yeah, I doubt it too.   But it just reinforces the fact that I will never attend a race at Talladega or Daytona.

I've yet to see someone get half as airborne at a non plate track.

Frontstretch.com's Doug Turnbull was live at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend, and he reported there were "Eight minor injuries, bumps and bruises, one airlift that's going to Birmingham. Dr. Bobby Lewis maintained there's nothing serious."

Also we've been told the biggest issue was actually a speaker that was jarred loose when Carl's car hit the fence.  That speaker appeared to have fallen on a woman in the stands.  It seemed like any debris from the car was really a non issue.

I heard that specators were injured from debris. Hopefully it's all minor. I've been in fence seats before and it's such a rush but that was not what I would pay a ticket for.

Was it me or did the passenger side roof flap not open until the car was off the ground? It seemed to me the drivers side popped once the car was sideways and the air caused yaw but the passenger side was way late even though that was the leading side in the spin?Huh?

I just listened to Sirius radio on the way home and they said no serious injuries.  Thank goodness.  I doubt Nascar will do anything except maybe raise the fence a bit.  Unfortunately just a product of plate racing.  Congrats to Brad on his first Cup win

I hope they are all okay especially the woman who may have a broken jaw. Personally I wouldn't call that one a "minor" injury until a CT scan was done. That was a pretty scary wreck for sure.

I wouldn't call a broken jaw and a broken arm and/or leg a minor injury.  Undecided

Hunter blames the DRIVERS???

"This is a big, fast racetrack no doubt, but our drivers are professional race car drivers. There are limits to everything and it seems as though no matter what, our drivers will stretch those limits," said Jim Hunter, NASCAR Vice President of Communications. "Our crash investigators will analyze this crash to see if there's anything we can do to prevent something like this. We're always looking at ways to make racing safer. That's our No. 1 priority."

Uh, what did anyone do other than think they were clear?   The drivers, as I understand it, are supposed to treat the Yellow line like a wall.   So I can't blame the 09.   The 99 thought he was still clear.    Obviously he wasn't.   Every driver on the circuit has made that mistake.

Ugh nascar.

I think Nascar got another scare with what happened to Carl's car. We will see if anything comes from this incident to protect the Spectators in the future at these Super Speedways !

Whatever it is that is 'right' and needs to be done, nascar will do the exact opposite. They always have in the past. What makes ANYONE think they would suddenly change now? It is still the same moronic Aholes running the show  Roll Eyes
