Today HMS announced that Mark Martin will drive the #5 car for the entire 2010 NASCAR season. Let the Keslowski speculation begin.

My opinion: Let Dale jr take the #88 and and sign Truex and allow JR motorsports become a true HMS Satelite team. Sign Keslowski to drive the #25 (insert sponsor here) HMS car replacing the #88. 10 percent of all #88 merchadise sales goes to HMS.

I can see JR starting his own team but I highly doubt Truex would want to be part of it. I personally think Truex would rather sign with Stewart Racing Tony is a proven winner and strives to win while JR is just living on his daddy's name and will settle for a 20th place finish while Stewart isn't happy with anything less ten a top 10 THATS why I think Truex would pick Stewart over JR in a heartbeat... Jr has enough issues right now to deal with. I don't see him trying to start up a new Cup team. If Tony decides to go to a 3rd team I could see either Truex or maybe Brad get the ride. Truex would probably get the nod because I'm sure Bass Pro would want to join SHR.

I'm not sure Jr is ready to oerate his own cup team. I know he has had success in the NNS but that is a whole different game. Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago we had a big discussion on how Jr was over rated? I think starting his own team would be a huge mistake.

I agree.  Now is not the time for Jr to let himself get distracted with trying to run his own team.  Seems he's having a hard enough time keeping his head in the game so he can run well, so it's a terrible time for him to add more to his plate.

I believe JR Motorsports will be in cup next year and Brad will be the driver.  Junior will have the right people in place to have that organization run well a la his Father.

Brad Keselowski is more than ready for a Sprint Cup Series ride, and I'm willing to bet he won't have any trouble finding a team to drive for.  His issue is more likely to be which one to pick.

The other question on the #41 is, whose going to be the interim owner?

I was thinking maybe Travis Kvapil for the driver's seat.

Interim owner, don't get me started on that!

Well that didn't take long. JJ Yeley has been announced as driver for the #41 since he is available for all races. An owner is expected to be annouced shortly.

Scott I didn't think it would be Kvapil since he's still under contract with Yates. And the #41 isn't a ford team.

Exit Question: Can Mayfiled's wife be named owner?

I was thinking if it was just up to Doug Yates and Kvapil they'd work it out between the two of them (since there is no immediate plans for the #28), but it is more complicated than that these days.

I had considered Yeley, too, just for the simplicity of him not being under any obligation to another team at all.  He's really not a great qualifiier, though.

I wonder if they even inquired about anybody other than JJ?  It was a pretty quick announcement, even if they had some hint from Richmond that something was in the wind.

Looks like it's not going to be J.J. Yeley after all...

[UPDATE: Who will replace the suspended Jeremy Mayfield? That's the question on everybody's mind after Tony Furr, crew chief of the #41 Jeremy Mayfield Motorsports entry, rescinded earlier comments to FOXSports.com that J.J. Yeley was tabbed for the position. Speaking on behalf of the team, Shana Mayfield said no decision has been made but Yeley is on the short list. Mayfield was suspended indefinitely from NASCAR on Saturday after violating the sanctioning body's substance abuse policy. The team is expected to name an owner of record shortly, as Mayfield is not allowed to be owner of record during his suspension.(FoxSports)[/quote]

well, I think it still points to Yeley but like most owners they want to be the one to let the cat out of the bag.

good point...there's bad enough news with Jeremy not being allowed at the track, the least Shana could get is the pleasure of making the annoucement.
