Yeley to sub for Mayfield: J.J. Yeley will drive the #41 Toyota for Mayfield Motorsports starting this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Yeley replaces Jeremy Mayfield, who was suspended indefinitely from NASCAR on Saturday after violating the sanctioning body's substance abuse policy [see story below]. "We believe in J.J.'s talent," said crew chief Tony Furr. "He's available for every race. So we won't be changing drivers. J.J. has something to prove just like we all do. We want someone that's hungry just like us. Everybody on this team has at one time or another worked for a larger organization. We're all racers who are all hungry, who all want to make the most of second chances and J.J. sort of fits that mold." The team is expected to name an owner of record shortly

Well folks always said Yeley had no business racing in CUp.. he wasn't good enough, needed more time, etc..
On the other hand many folks said Mayfield got a raw deal.. SHOULD have a full time CUP ride, etc etc
I guess NOW we'll get a head-to-head comparison between the two
Yeley in for Mayfield starting this weekend.
Same cars- same team, same support staff... we'll see who out-does who.

My Money in on Yeley,.. and thats even considering he's never so much as SET in a CoT and will be at a disadvantage to start with.  If Yeley stays in the car very long... I see Yeley making a LOT more races than Mayfield has..

Yeley ran COT races.  He hasn't been gone that long.

Ran for JGR in '07 (16 COT races) and ran the first half of '08 for HOF

That's what I was thinking while I was reading that.  Wonder who they'll name as owner for now.

UPDATE: Who will replace the suspended Jeremy Mayfield? That's the question on everybody's mind after Tony Furr, crew chief of the #41 Jeremy Mayfield Motorsports entry, rescinded earlier comments to FOXSports.com that J.J. Yeley was tabbed for the position. Speaking on behalf of the team, Shana Mayfield said no decision has been made but Yeley is on the short list. Mayfield was suspended indefinitely from NASCAR on Saturday after violating the sanctioning body's substance abuse policy. The team is expected to name an owner of record shortly, as Mayfield is not allowed to be owner of record during his suspension.(FoxSports)(5-11-2009)

well what I meant to say was he hasnr raced "recently"
Point I was making was that the CoT he drove LAST year will probably drive NOTHING like the CoT he'll drive THIS year
As you know teams say a chassis is out dated before 1/2 a season is up...
With the chassis being out-dated, (and upgraded) then that'll change the cars charastics and how it handles..
In any event I'm betting Yeley does MUCH better than Mayfield had so far.. and Mayfields been in the seat full time the last 3 months.

As far as owner.. I'd say it'll go to Mayfields wife (unless she likes to take a lttle toot now and then too,.. and the Mayfields are afraid she'll be the NEXT one banned for substance abuse...  Then they'll find someone else   LOL

Toot?  I never read anywhere that it was anything like that.  Not dissing you for saying that but till we really know what happened maybe we ought to be careful of tarnishment of character.  Just saying.  Speaking of which, I wish they'd say what it actually was.  Seems like Jeremy would want to come clean if it was an illegal substance so that he could start public rehabilitation.  If it was really cold medicine then he got a raw deal.

NASCAR.com just released an article saying that Shana will be the interm owner, she's in Daytona this morning filling out the paperwork and she's quoted as putting JJ Yeley as driver because he's available for the rest of the season.

ESPN's NASCAR now reported on it's show yesterday that owners are not tested. Only drivers and garage / pit crews are. The way it was phrased was pretty shaky so I'm not sure what the "offical" word for word policy is. But they were adamant that owners are not tested. So Shana would not fall under the policy.

As far as toot goes. In the past it was a wide spread problem that engulfed several crew chiefs and team members before. Several have been to re-hab for it's use.

Exit question: Does the NASCAR officals and flagmen fall into this testing policy?

Nascar officials are tested at the beginning of the year, and also subject to random testing throughout the year.

Toot... seems to be the drug of choice... NASCAR and otherwise.  Toot or toke.. one or the other.
As far as "Really" knowing what happened.. I can't see it happening.  NASCAR'solicy is "it don't tell",... so NASCAR isn't gonna say.
As far as info coming from Mayfield... he's ALREADY started saying it was OTC, etc... so IMO he's not gonna back up now and say he lied.
From what I have saw of Mayfield past,.. NOTHING is ever his fault, and someone else always causes his problems.... so with past history being a guide, I can't see him EVER admitting he used ANY type of drugs.
SO I don't ever see Mayfield "coming clean" and admitting what he done... and people that DON'T admit they have a problem, don't rehab.

Yeley is in.  Let see if he can make more races than Mayfield was doing.  He has the talent but that car seems awful.
