Due to technical difficulties, the chat room isn't loaded.  But I'm here and happy to make noise until it's fixed!  How 'about you?

Lots to talk about this week...new TNT coverage, double-file restarts, Kyle being Kyle, the Mayfield debacle, Carl Long's continued woes...it won't be a boring afternoon even if the parade never stops!

Did anybody see the TNT promo where animated race buddy screws a man-hole cover over Digger's hole?  I'm debating whether that is an improvement.

TNT coverage Bill Weber looks like a smurf. I can't take a smurf seriously

Double file restarts good place to test it with a wide open frontstretch going into one.

Kyle all talent no class

Mayfield: Going against the rich man.

Carl Long doesn't he have one last appeal

While Carl does have one last appear, I don't know if we'll see any changes.  The NASCAR finding sounded rather ominous.  The message they're sending this year is if you don't have the resources, maybe you shouldn't be here.

Mayfield in depth he really wanted a quick motion or injunction and he didn't get it. After he didn't get it his team tried some PR stuff. But either way they underestimated the force they're going against in a civil case. I think Marcia Grant underestimated the power of NASCAR and it's lawyers.

Absolutely.  I work for a media giant in the real world.  You don't want to file against them...it's not going to go well.  Mayfield is definitely in the same boat.  On the other side, once the finding is handed down in federal court, NASCAR will have a precedent for all future problems re: this policy.  Whether NASCAR wins or not

I fully agree with NASCAR aurgument that a sliding scale would be bad. I agree that some sort of punishment was required for Long the motor was illegal and it's the owners crew chief responsibility to ensure that motor is legal. NASCAR inconsistency is the biggest problem with penalties.

Carl never competed with that illegal motor but Robby Gordon competed with an illegal rear end (even thought the setting was legal the potential to cheat was there) Two differrent penalties.

NASCAR says it doesn't want to get into intent. But Carl leased that motor and last year Robby got the wrongnose from GEM. Last year the appeals board modified penalties based off a mis print in the rule book and inent Carl Long got no consideration.

Can somebody tell me why we have another basketball expert in the commentator booth for NASCAR?  Just wondering...maybe Mark Fein will be knowledgeable...since I don't watch BB, have no idea.

My problem with the Carl Long issue isn't that I'd want a sliding scale...that wouldn't be cool.  But when NASCAR insists it wants the up and comers to compete, and then really hands down penalties that for all purposes excludes that competitor from ever recovering, they send a totally different message.  Carl was never going to win a race with that engine.  Do they want him coming to the track?  I'd guess not.  Go home.  You're not part of the cool kids!

Whose Mark Fein?

Kyle just said last night that breaking the guitar was pure emotion.. He's quoted all the way back last year saying he would tear up the guitar and give it to the team..A little Klye PR two step?

I really think that in todays media market NASCAR wants the Jeremy Mayfield thing to go away quickly because niether NASCAR or Jeremy is winning in the news on blogs and on forums

No they don't want the small guy and start and parkers. It's ruining the show. In the truck race 12 trucks were off the track by lap 50. NASCAR I think has the perfect storm to franchiese and then really control the "show" if you're on a shoestring budget better try your hand in truck or NNS

Mark Fein appeared in the pre-pre race show with Larry Mac and Kyle Petty.  I'd say he's the Chris Meyers of TNT.  A nobody, and after my quick googling, apparently nobody with racing knowledge.
