Welcome MR!
I think it's going to come down he who has the most cash gets to stay in-house. There was a rumor I read yesterday that said Goeff Smith is trying to close a deal with the #26 team. I would be that part of that deal would include staying at RFR primary house. Which would leave the #6 odd man out and ending up at RFR east (aka Yates racing)

How Jamie gets a sponsor is beyond me but this looks like how it is going to play out. Should we assume this means the end of Fennig's career?

Fenning will end up on his feet somewhere. Wasn't he doing some resurrection last year in the truck series?

he has a daughter in college so you are right. He wanted to retire when Kurt moved to PRS but couldn't afford it. He is very loyal to Roush but as one can see from Mark's career move he would be wise to move out of dodge. Maybe he can resurrect Junior's career

Well this isn't going to help matters any. From Jayski.com.
Kenseth Losing sponsor for 2010.
DeWalt will not return to the #17 team in 2010: Roush Fenway Racing was informed today that DeWalt Power Tools will not renew its sponsorship of Matt Kenseth and the #17 team for the 2010 NASCAR season. “We would like to thank DeWalt for serving as a great partner for the past 10 years,” said Roush Fenway President Geoff Smith. “During that time we have seen great success for both their company and marketing program, as well as with Matt on the race track. They will always be remembered and honored as the sponsor of Jack Roush’s first Sprint Cup Championship team. Despite this success – in the face of the significant world-wide economic decline in the construction industry – DeWalt’s decision to not return is not a great surprise to us. Fortunately, we have several great companies interested in taking over and we expect to begin finalizing those sponsorship arrangements in the very near future. All of us at Roush Fenway Racing remain committed to keeping the #17 DeWalt car running up front, winning races and to put them in a position to contend for a second championship this season.”(Roush Fenway Racing)(7-23-2009)
Well let's see, Roush has to downsize to a 4 car team and now he has one of his top drivers sponsorless. Do you take one of your drivers out of a sponsored car to throw Matt in or better yet, Will the sponsor even want Matt. Some sponsors want certain drivers and they may not want Matt.

If there are any Sponsors to be had RFR and Matt Kenseth will attract them. As for Jimmy Fenning this guy is great crew chief , when Mark Martin finally retires from Cup I would love to see Mark and Jimmy team back up in the Truck Series. Hell I could see them running for the Points Championship in their sixties lol !

Yeah, I don't think there will be a problem with getting another sponsor for the 17.

Lots of news out of RFR from Indy.
From Jayski:
Ragan the odd man out at Roush? UPDATE...nope? Who will be the odd man out at Roush Fenway Racing? According to published reports, Roush Fenway president Geoff Smith is putting together a sponsor package that would keep #26-Jamie McMurray in the fold. McMurray, whose contract expires after this season, has been speculated as the most likely to be moved to satellite team, Yates Racing, to get Roush to four teams. If McMurray stays then #6-David Ragan becomes the top candidate to leave because #17-Matt Kenseth, #99-Carl Edwards and #16-Greg Biffle signed new deals within the last year. A decision on restructuring should come by September at the latest. Roush has until the end of this season to move from five to four teams as NASCAR mandated when it put a cap on teams.(ESPN Insider)(7-21-2009)
UPDATE: With #99-Carl Edwards, #17-Matt Kenseth and #16-Greg Biffle all signed to long term contracts, multiple sources say that #6-David Ragan will be the fourth driver at the team next year. "Absolutely, I can confirm that David Ragan will be driving for UPS in the #6 Roush Fenway car," said Zak Brown, CEO of Just Marketing International, which handles the UPS marketing account. According to NASCAR rules, RFR has to downsize from five to four teams by the end of this year. #26-Jamie McMurray, the fifth driver at RFR, is likely headed across the street from the Roush shop to Yates Racing, which is a satellite organization of RFR. However, another option appears to be a reunion with former boss Chip Ganassi.
And an article on ESPN this morning is quoting Geoff Smith that McMurray is free to shop around. He's arleady been approached by EGR for him to fill the #1 seat. (bet that gives Aric a boost of confidence). Supposedly sponsors have a hard time believeing that Yates racing (aka RFR East) is on the same page as RFR and they are considered a "B" team. Crown Royal still has a sponsor package for the next two years and they admit it's a possibility that it will move to the 17 (Don't do it Matt!). Here's the link to the ESPN article.

It's official....Crown Royal to the #17, Jamie Mac odd man out...no word on whether he'll go to Yates, or elsewhere, but rumor has it Yates can only take him on if he has full sponsorship. Seems Irwin is willing to stick with him, at least as a partial sponsor:

Well I guess thats a start. If Irwin WILL stay with him for say a half season then maybe pick up one or two more sponsors for the other half............... that would at least get him a ride for 2010 then he could look for a better team to go to in 2011.

Yeah, it seems like the only way to get a ride these days, unless you are one of the superstars (Mark Martin, Dale Jr) is to bring your own sponsorship. Look at Menard...mind you, last I heard, he was out after this season at yates. Labonte, too.

I believed it was confirmed yesterday that Menard is back at Yates next season.
