Life really boils down to 2 main questions:

1. Should I get a dog?

OR

2. Should I have children?

Remember, no matter how bad life gets, there is always the light at the end of the tunnel:

Always be thankful for what you've got:

(Cats are SOOOO dramatic!!)

Ok BB, if we do get a dog, I vote for a black lab so I can use it for hunting but it will have its own house outside. Skip the kids, been there done that. We'll just spoil the grandkids and send them home. We're going to have a big enough challenge integrating the cats we already got!

Nah, I don't do the waterfowl hunting. Too many restrictions and licenses to buy. For me it is mostly pheasant. I hunt with two dogs, (separately) and both of them belong to my buddies.  One is a yellow lab and one a black. Both dogs, even though they are not mine, have known me most if not all of their lives and obey me as much as their masters.

However, THE BEST dog I EVER hunted with was a German Shorthair (for pheasant) that was a national champion a couple of years ago. the dog's name was Jesse.

I've been hunting pheasant all my life, with and without a dog, however, this dog was just totally unbeleivable!!!! I had the opportunity to hunt with Jesse twice now and I have never seen anything like it in my life.  Of course, that is all Jesse was bred for and taught. As for the labs, they are both pure bred and top notch themselves and I would never turn down or be ashamed to match them up against anyone elses dogs, but WOW!  Hunting with Jesse (twice!) is something I will NEVER forget!

Unfortunately, German Shorthairs, while superb hunting dogs, are not all that good as pets and with children. THAT is where a good lab has them beat hands down!
