My mother doesn't know what leisure time is LOL.  If she's sitting watching tv, she's probably folding laundry while she's watching.

Yeah, I think that the luster is gone. The cars are still shiney and pretty, but nascar as a whole has become pretty predictable and the season is soooooooooooo long.  You should try having to write about it each week!   I mean, I like racing and all, and I am extremely happy and lucky that my girlfriend shares that with me, but I don't have the fire for nascar that I once had.  Sad, but true.

I lurk more than I post here (as my post count shows  Wink ), but I have noticed on several other forums that posting has slowed down.  The cause seems to differ from forum to forum, but many feel that the lack of interest in NASCAR and racing is the main cause.  As for me, the fall is a busy time with my teenage and he cannot drive yet, so I am playing taxi driver  Grin

With NASCAR, it's the Jimmie Johnson Show. I'm not a fan. At least I have 42 other guys to cheer for on Sunday.

NFL, I have my Panthers. Ouch.

 NHL, the Hurricanes. 'Nuther OUCH.

 I don't like baseball.

At least my weekends have been opened up for other options.

Yeah we need to talk about when your Mom is taking vacation in wonderful Omaha, Nebraska!  LOL
I'm teasing, she doesn't have to clean when she's here.  But when I win the lottery, we'll all go on vacation and no cleaning allowed!

Is There ANYbody out there?

« Reply #25 on: December 21, 2009, 12:47:18 PM »

I don't know where everybody is either. For that matter, I'm not even sure I know where I am half the time. I wondered why, after a long absence, the member's post counts seemed to be lower than I would have expected. I figured my post count would be one of the lower counts by now.

Perhaps if the President were to inject some stimulus monies into NASCAR, maybe it would, well, ......... stimulate some fans, as it seems the racing hasn't been all that stimulating. Or the Prez might consider a health care package for NASCAR's failing health.

I threw in the towel a couple of seasons ago. Plum fed up and had enough, I hung my Gone Fishin' sign on the door and locked it. What amazed me most was how easy it was for me to just walk away and not look back. When I encountered other NASCAR fans bench racin', I had no desire to join in. And to this day I'm nowhere near as interested as I used to be.

I've had some major distractions lately and don't doubt that has something to do with my dis-interest. I'm hoping a renewed interest will indicate my distractions are receding, but if that's the case, is it NASCAR I'm interested in or the reduction of my distractions?
I reckon only time will tell.

I'm still not of the opinion the season is too long.  I'd like to see a race dropped from MANY tracks and us have 36 different tracks each year.
And I can't say the results are "predictable"... I will say there are only certain drivers that REALISTICALLY have a chance of winning each week... (Martin, Biffle, Kenseth, Stewart, Ky Busch, Gordon, Montoya, Johnson, and Edwards... and then a whole slew of 2nd tier guys, Kahne, Ku Busch, Hamlin,Harvick, Burton, Bowyer and Newman)
Now If you been around 30+ years like I have.. this is a MUCH huger list of possible winners thanhj it was several years ago.  Back then you could narrow it down to Petty, Pearson, Baker, Yarborough, Waltrip, Elliott and Dale Sr.  Thats about it... 30 races, and normally only 7 guys with a shot at winning.
At least now we have about 10 possible winners weekly and a very close 2nd tier class that totals 15 possible winners each week.
This is why I think it's a lot less predictable.  Granted more cars had mechanical problems years ago,.. which is one reason why there were few winners.  Only the "money" teams could be competative.  With more cars now finishing race (and even more finishing on the lead lap)
Many folks seem to have lost their fire (IMO I think it's many of the "older" fans)... Maybe it's time to sell off my diecast collect

HH.  I said it earlier and I'll say it again... It's nice to have you back.
I think part of the reason I manage to keep my interest so high in CUP racing is because I still run my race game, and winning money depending on your picks KEEPS you interested.  I hope you re-join again this season HH (or anyone else that may be interested)

I don't think the season is too long.  I could love NASCAR again but right now it just isn't the priority that it used to be.  Heck, I post so seldom that I bet most of you forgot about little ole me.  I used to joke that I had motor oil for blood but now I think it's just good ole 100% red.  It's really sad too.  I mean, I used to look forward to the races so much.  Off weekends were a bummer for me.  Then, about half way through this season I just stopped caring.  I don't even know why.

I still say NASCAR folks are about the best there are.  I don't dislike racing.  I'm just tired of being looked at as a profit carrying device for the Brian, I guess.  I'm sure he don't like me so why should I love his product.  That's my biggest beef now.  It's a product and not a lifestyle anymore.  It's getting every penny out of every poor slob that they can.  I kinda feel like a sucker when I lay my $7 down for a beer, if you know what I mean.

I think it would be great if they cut all the sponsorships by half and made the cars more attainable for the average investor/owner.  Now there would be some fun!  $30 tickets and $3 pizza perhaps?  One thing I think they did get right was moving the awards to Vegas.  At least now it is more fan friendly in that regard.

I'm not saying I don't look forward to Bristol (baby!) and Daytona and Indy, et. al but the week to week is different.  If I have the time I'll watch a race.  If I miss one I don't get worried about it like I used to.

I HATE to sound negative!  I don't really feel negative.  Frustrated... yeah, a bit.  More than anything I'm take it or leave it.  I'd rather take it but I'm tired.  Nuff said.

Same here, amigo.
There was a time frame of about 10 or 12 years where I was revolving around NASCAR
By that I mean, the satisfaction factor was so great I adjusted my schedule to make it possible to watch and/or attend events, --- including other series. That's a lot. Would I go so far as to say NASCAR affected my life?
Yeah.

I'm not into the sticky-bally sports, so all my attention was on NASCAR full time, even in the off season, which is associated with the NASCAR withdrawls. I've followed NASCAR since the early 1960's --- which living on the far southern left coast wasn't as convenient and easy as it is now. Back then we read about it in magazines weeks after the races, and sometimes in the newspaper, if they even mentioned anything about NASCAR at all. When all the NASCAR programming and related information became available as NASCAR expanded, it brought on a whole new dimension for us old(er) west coast fans starving for more NASCAR. The availability on television and the computer was the icing on the triple chocolate fudge cake.

But with all that coverage it was easy to notice NASCAR was changing. Couldn't put my finger on why or exactly how though. It didn't feel the same and I wasn't as comfortable with the fit.
Not too long after The Brian took the reins, I was invited to attend a gathering which included "some NASCAR fans who are like, totally into NASCAR."  I attended.
When introduced,  they were all (like) in their teens, early twenties. They just stood there with that deer in the headlights look. Then the one wearing a LillE T-shirt spoke up, ......You're into NASCAR??!!
But, ........ you're, like, old , dude."

That might have been my turning point.
But I never would have believed anyone who predicted I would get to the point where I am today, ...... or have been. Tryin' to get re-interested.
I didn't have to try years ago.
It just happened and I couldn't help it.

I think you'd lose that bet.

YeP!
Same thing with me only sooner.
I didn't even see a total disinterest coming.
Pretty much shocked a few people I know.

If you mean the race fans, I agree.
But I don't really have other sports fans to compare NASCAR fans to.
Well, ........ except for rodeo cowboys.

Good guess, I guess.  Cheesy

I know what you mean. Especially your comment about NASCAR becoming a "product". Even worse, a "product" The Brian seems to believe he can change anyway he sees fit and the fans HAVE to accept it because they're known to be loyal. That, and his bait and switch tactics combined with knee-jerk reactions. I don't get the feeling that The Brian respects NASCAR fans.

You've forgotten that NASCAR isn't about racing anymore.
The Brian has declared it's about the entertainment.
I wasn't entertained enough to remain.

Smyler, After reading your thoughts I realized I'm not alone.
What you've described is the same as I experienced.
Should that makes us feel better?
