In most sports Hall Of Fames, the player is inducted with a Team Association.  Example Babe Ruth as a Yankee even tough he played with the Red Sox for years.  Joe Montana as a FortyNiner even tough he also played for the Chiefs a few years.  Wayne Gretzky as an Oiler even tough he played for the Kings and Rangers a few years.

My Question is this .........

Should Dale Earnhardt be inducted in the Blue And Yellow Wrangler colors, or the Black And White GM Goodwrench colors ?

For him, the strongest associations will always be with Childress, Chevrolet, and the black #3.

For Richard Petty, the first images that come to mind are always the Petty Blue (and STP red) #43, and the Mopar factory support era.

For a some future HOF drivers, there may not be a really clear cut choice, though.

I think it should be the Blue and Yellow Wrangler #3.

One Tuff Customer was the best.

GM would have a fit if they feature one of those Bud Moore Wrangler T-birds instead of Goodwrench.  Cheesy

I do think whatever displays they have should be inclusive as possible of each driver's rides throughout their career, though.

3 Championships with Wrangler Blue, one without the Wrangler Sponsorship.

31 wins with Wrangler Blue, 1 without Wrangler sponsorship.

4 Championships with GM Black and White, 45 wins.

But, the Pass In The Grass and his most dominating wins and seasons came with Wrangler not GM.

1987, almost a 500 Point Victory over Bill Elliott in Wrangler Blue with 11 wins.

And 1993 and 1994  No Kulwicki and D. Allison to battle for title.

Why not both. Why does there have to be a choice? And in all actuality when inducted into the NFL HoF you're not associated with a single team. You're display covers your entire career. Some players have gone back to thier long time teams (ie Emmitt Smith) and retired from that teams but it doesn't mean a thing to the HoF.

I thought it would be a neat discusion.

"One Tuff Customer" VS "The Intimiadator"

Wrangler #3 VS GM Goodwrench #3

In that case then. The black #3. I saw several races as a kid on tv and that blue and yellow #3. But it wasn't until the 90's when I became a real fan and started to boo and cheer that black #3. I would never say I was a big "E" fan but I always respected the talent and determination to win.

If you were not an Earnhardt fan than you would always associate Senior with the Black #3.

So...when Mark Martin retires and makes the HoF...which sponsor should be on his display?  How about Winn-Dixie...or Viagra?   AAA? Valvoline? If he wins that Cup...Kellogg's? Wasn't he driving Folgers at some point? (maybe I'm wrong on that...)

Boy, the HoF is gonna be a giant billboard for sponsors! Unless NASCAR makes a real effort to highlight the individual achievements and not the paintjobs...

He most certainly did drive for foldgers. Winston Kelly is going to have some sort of standard for what each awardee will be enshirned with. How do you "advertise" the people that aren't asscociated with sponsors. I think Barney Hall and Ken Squire deserve to be there. What goes into thier sections? But again I think that's all up to Winston Kelly.

In the Former Busch Series Mark is most Recognized with Winn-Dixie #60 , as for Cup unless he makes a statement or preference I would think that most people recognize him in the Ford Valvoline #6 for Jack Roush ...but with the way Hendrik's has treated him he may well hang with the #5 for a few more interesting yrs , which may fade his recognition with the #6 lol !  Wink
